We decided to keep our appointment and get a second opinion after seeing another veterinary ophthalmology specialist. So happy that we did! Dr. Smith and his staff are fantastic. Very thorough in the exam, excellent in explaining everything and answering questions. Also very good at making it a positive vet experience for our puppy. Highly recommend them- they are on a different level.

Dr. Smith is touted as the best veterinarian eye specialist in the D.C. region. I liked him, time will tell how good he is.

I took my dog here for a chronic eye condition. The doctor was very friendly, experienced, and knowledgeable. After the exam, he sat down with me face-to-face and explained the situation in detail. Being a specialist, it was obviously more costly than a regular vet. I was initially afraid that he'd want to order a bunch of really expensive tests, but that turned out to not be the case at all. I would recommend this place to a friend or family member; however, their schedule is unfortunately very booked (making the wait to see him inconveniently long).

Dr. Smith is the absolute best. He was so knowledgeable, empathetic, and a true advocate for my cat Molly. When my local vets ran the wrong test, Dr. Smith and his office were on it and had my local vet redo it. I thought my cat had a fatal disease (FIP) due to my local vets giving me incorrect information from a different test, but by reviewing the test results from my local vets and double checking their work, he was able to confirm his suspicion that she is healthy. This was so important to me after going a week or two thinking my cat was not going to make it (and it only took that long because at the time Dr. Smith was out of office for a week or two, maybe for a vacation), but the day he came back from vacation he called me immediately to let me know that the wrong test had been done by the other vet and that he truly didn’t think she had FIP but he’d have them run the right test just to be sure, and he was right - she’s fine. He also went over the pros and cons of taking her eye out and the consequences for each so I could make an informed decision. He even gave me a call afterwards to make sure she was doing well after the testing issue was rectified. All around fantastic vet. Definitely the best of the best and 100% worth it. So glad I was able to work with Dr. Smith and his staff!

I believe I paid $95 for the office visit. My visit was an emergency visit for my dogs eye and her procedure cost $500+. He saved my dogs eye. If something terrible happened to my dogs eye again I will come back to this guy. He was also recommended out of the three eye doctors my vet provided information about.
