In the shadow of Whitestone Bridge, not far from Laguardia Airport, is the small - but very popular - Francis Lewis Park. If you're into people watching, visit on a clement Sunday afternoon when the park is taken over by large families of various ethnicities. Many of them bring their picnic baskets and a couple will have their picnic catered by professionals. If you like to observe jet planes on their final approach before landing, the park is close to Laguardia Airport. You can see several planes every hour. On the day I visited, there were also several people taking a dip in the East River or strolling on the small beach of the park.

Beautiful park with everything you’d want: magnificent views of the Whitestone bridge, city skylines, big green grassy fields for picnics, play ground, and a small beach. Absolutely loved taking my family here. Also a great place for Fourth of July celebrations.

Small but clean. Nicely maintained public park by the Whitestone Bridge. Quiet neighborhood other than the humming noise from traffic. Beautiful view of the bridge regardless of the weather condition. The water line receded now, you can walk on the small beach. You can even walk onto the pier and get under the bridge.
