Food was great! Location is great! Very picturesque setting. Service was terrible, unfortunately. Would be a 4 or 5 star rating but our waitress was so bad. They were not even busy, which made it more disappointing.

I ate at Red Apple twice this week on vacation. Huge portions, great food. I had a great bloody Mary the other day, and a delicious mocha today. The crab cake Benedict was huge.

I've been going here for 20 years. A 30 minute drive from home, but more than worth it. There are dozens of decent restaurants five minutes away, but Red Apple beats them all - even Crows Nest and Shadowbrook. We take visitors there for special treats. Never a bad meal, enough left over to make complete meals the next day. A lot of food. Large menu. Specials every day that make it difficult to pick what to eat. Everything is fresh. Great service. I hate to write this review because the place is already crowded, but it deserves the spotlight. I wish they'd open for dinner. I've read a lot of the reviews and most of the "one stars". I have to guess that those come from competitors, not customers. I've never experienced any problems they claimed. Nice try though.

The perfect day would entail a delicious eggs benedict breakfast on the patio with plenty shade and a beautiful view. The Red Apple Cafe delivers the perfect breakfast experience. The avocado benedict with country potatoes was one of the best I've ever enjoyed. The breakfast plates are huge and filling. I can see why this cafe was voted "Best of Santa Cruz" for six consecutive years in a row. There are a multitude of stairs to climb in order to reach the restaurant. If this poses a problem, there is an escalator and elevator available. I would recommend the waitresses have another employee cover their tables while they are on break.
