Really helpful, knowledgeable staff. I was able to hold wills written over 250 years ago by my ancestors and I felt so connected to them holding that paper. It was great! Also really interesting maps. So much more to come back and do some time!

No. There were many native American tribes spread throughout NC. There are a few scattered, mostly small pockets of descendants in various parts of the State. The most populous and best known are the Cherokee in the west.

Archives are not bought and sold at State Archives of NC. Nor are antiques.

No. The Archives and Library are both closed today for the Easter weekend. The Library will reopen on Monday and the Archives will reopen on Tuesday. Sorry for the inconvience.
