Camp site was clean quiet and easy to back into. Bathrooms were clean but I didn't use the shower. Lake (big pond) was nice and very refreshing.

Nice small park and campsite and no cellular service so it is a good get away from society and to be with nature on the trails

I grew up going to this state park. Always have enjoyed it because everything is nice and well kept. I've loved the many times I've swum there, picnicked the and camped there. Through the years, it has managed to keep the simplicity that makes this park cozy and delightful.

Nice park. It's not very big but it is very well kept. Good camp sites. We parked our camper in spot 35, it was in a really good spot with plenty of room. The bathhouse was recently updated. Easy pull in/out for tank emptying. Nice pond and good enough playground area for the kids. It was nice and quiet. Will be back definitely.

There are some nice views of the lake from a path, there is also the nature trail, which is shady, quiet, and along a stream in parts. The best view I've found so far is from Flat Rock, which is roughly a 5 mile hike up and back.
You can pick up the trail in the campground
You can reserve a pavilion.
It wasn't working the last time we were there also.

To my knowledge it is first come first serve and you do not have to pay for a pavilion. I had a birthday party 2 years ago and went early to set up and never had to pay for having it and we were there all day.
That won't be open to next month the 24th how I understand can the whole park be open up.
Prob not till march or after const. Work going on now
The park is under major construction. There are signs telling you where to park when you enter the park.
Campground is closed for rearranging renovation. Also, no swimming due to bacteria in the water
Campground is closed. Here's the alert from thier website: Due to the campground project work, the Colonel Denning Campground will be closed for the entire 2018 camping season. Camping may be available at nearby state parks. Updates for availability will be made as the project is finalized. Thank you for your understanding.
Free, unless you want to camp overnight, or rent a pavilion.
Yes you can - has a designated swimming area. As mentioned above, no lifeguard, but there is lifesaving equipment on site. Be aware that the campground is closed for the entire 2018 season for renevation of the campground. Access to the lake may not be impacted, but there may be road closures in and around the park.
The main area of the park is down in a valley so not good for a sunset if you're wanting to drive to the vantage point. However if you're willing to take a somewhat strenuous hike to the top of the ridge as the other folks have mentioned already, it is a very nice place to catch a sunrise or sunset. I have not seen it myself at those times, but having seen the veiw I know it would be a good place. The problem is hiking up or back in the dark could be somewhat problematic and dangerous and would certainly require a flashlight. Be aware that the park is closing the last I heard in the last few months of 2017 and will be closed for all of 2018 for a major upgrade to the sewage treatment system and the bath rooms and adding a shower house I believe. Due to the extensive nature of the work, I think they plan on closing the entire Park, not just the campground. I would highly recommend going to the DCNR website and checking for news and alerts before you plan a trip there.
