No you can NOT get food here . But you or your group can volunteer to help repack food for neighborhood pantries and the like . Wonderful place to have your kids do volunteer work to help the less fortunate . Wouldn't it be great if more of us could help

Very disappointed! We were at this facility with a group and we came in on a small bus to volunteer. The security department was very rude to our bus driver and tainted our visit. The driver was going to come in and volunteer her time too. So all of our good work was for nothing. We will take our helping hands elsewhere. Strongly suggest nicer people working here. If your looking for someplace to go and volunteer head to the Feed my starving childrens program they would welcome everyone.

First time going to volunteer and it was great. So organized. Staff so welcoming and helpful. Will need to go back again and bring our kids. Great for work place engagement too. Donate your time, have fun, and help out

Incredibly smooth volunteer process. Clean and impressive facility. Repacking is harder work than you'd think but it's honestly so much fun and they play some great upbeat music. Adorable stickers to take home. Locker system is helpful and convenient. Considering becoming a regular volunteer!!!

Clients do not receive food directly from food depository. Food is distributed to food pantries and you go to your local food pantry to receive food. Proof of income is needed and the # of people in your household. I'm a volunteer at GCFD as well as a participant in the annual hunger walk. I hope this helped.
Yes. They rely on volunteers to keep things running. Check out their website to see when they need volunteers.
The Food Depository doesn't except prepared foods .Cans cereals meat fruit veggies beans peas rice breads toiletries etc. Contact your Food Depository or website for more info. Use your zipcode for the nearest one. Hope this helps.
Good evening you definitely need to visit Chicagofoodbank.org register then look on the volunteer calendar to sign up
At the Greater Chicago Food Depository, food safety is a top priority in everything we do, including sourcing, storage, handling and distribution. The Food Depository only accepts food from reputable sources known for consistent quality. We have various internal food safety policies and procedures to ensure the food we distribute to our partner agencies is safe to eat. There are often misperceptions about the dates typically found on packaged food with phrases such as “sell by,” “best by,” and “use by.” Those dates are largely based on the manufacturers’ recommendation for peak quality and have little to do with food safety. If you believe you’ve received expired food from a food pantry in our network, please call 773-247-3663 to let us know the relevant details.
I'm pretty sure they don't give food directly to individuals at this location. They distribute food among local food banks and the like.
Depending on the type of volunteer job needed, location and day of week, sessions can vary from 2:45 to 4 hours. Best to create a profile and check their calendar at https://volunteers.chicagosfoodbank.org/index.php?section=IndividualOpportunities&action=calendar
According to the GCFD website FAQs: "Anyone 11 years of age and older may volunteer at the Food Depository during regular sessions. Youth aged 15 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. Ages 16 and older can volunteer independently." So you CAN volunteer WITHOUT an adult at 16. What a great thing for someone so young to want to take the initiative to help their community. Kudos!
I'm not sure. They do have drivers who deliver the donation to different organization through out Chicago.
Idk. Call & ask
Their website actually offers a calendar view of times and days of available volunteer sessions! It is also through their website that you can sign up for a session. I linked the calendar view below so it is easier for you to get to. Hope this helps! https://volunteers.chicagosfoodbank.org/index.php?section=IndividualOpportunities&action=calendar
Hi Magdalena, you can find a food pantry near you on our website: chicagosfoodbank.org/find-food. We recommend calling the pantries in your area to see if they are able to deliver.
You will have to go to your local food pantry the way you find that is to go to Chicagofooddepository.org put your zip code in where it says find food, it will show the closest food pantry from your ZIP codewith the phone number and the days that they are open
If Deborah's Place is a partner agency, you can set up the food drive or fund raiser to collect specifically to them. https://www.chicagosfoodbank.org/find-food/
Yes. You can donate there at any age. My group is between 11 to 13 years old.
I'm not sure of the logistics but my job partners with them a we do a food distribution once a month all year. Just contact them directly and I'm sure they will connect you with the right department.
Go to a shelter
How would I go about volunteering I would really like to volunteer
Yes at school they said it counts for community service.
Yes
I don't know. I'm about to start a cooking class there but its only tues.-fri.
I would call, normally you have to register on there site through the volunteer section if they have availability...and I believe under 16 needs an adult volunteering as well...I know my daughter is 12 and can only volunteer on kid/family days due to her age...but I would call and they could answer all those questions...good luck! It's a great place to volunteer!
Yes I would call the gcfd they're really nice and I think they could accommodate
I don't think so, but I would call
Anyone 14 years of age and older may volunteer at the Food Depository during regular sessions. Ages 14 and 15 need to be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. Ages 16 and older can volunteer independently. High school and youth groups may volunteer with one adult for every 10 youth. These do have kids days and family days where younger than 14 can volunteer with an adult.
Set a appointment up with the greater Chicago food depository
The Depository does not distribute directly to individuals at their main location. Their website does list local pantries and soup kitchens that they partner with: https://www.chicagosfoodbank.org/find-food/ They also do distributions at some CCHHS and ACCESS Health clinics.
No you have to be an association or a group
You can look up pantries in your area or hers on their website. Most you need an ID proving your address. There is no applying, just waiting in line...line gets long wherever you go, so go early...hope this helps.
Please contact the main line at GCFD. There are many program through SNAP, no kids hungry, etc. Application are available at the location and if qualify you will be notified. Calling the main number will answer your questions faster.
Call the person over your agency and they could help you or send you to someone who can.
Yes
They train you and will try to help you find jobs, primarily.
No. It could offend someone
Just call or go on the website & emailed them they'll reach out to you & see
Yes. They do sometimes have formula. However, they don't serve the public directly. You have to visit a local food pantry.
who is giving out food today
They do, not sure how you partner, but call during business hours and i am sure someond can help you.
This is not a plqce to buy food. This is a place where food items are processed for homeless people. Though, if you have something fresh, you can donate them.
