Great park with a huge area for picnic and barbecue. There are two big parking lots free, but you can also park on the sides of the street. Nice playground and good view of the lake.

Surpised again by this naturally beautiful area right in the middle of the city. The day was a little chilly, but when we got next to the lake it was so super cold. The park was definitely busy, but not crowded. The park is huge and has a really lot of activities and trails to explore. As we walked, we found wildlife, fishing areas, fly casting practice areas, a wheelchair accessible baseball field (so proud to see this!), a playground, built in BBQ grills, pedal boats and bikes for rent, and then tons of food/art/balloon vendors. I did have questions for the guy cuddling the wild lake goose, but I was in a bit of a hurry so maybe next time 😆 🤣 This is such a great place to hang out with your family, a date, or even just by yourself ♥️

It's a nice place if you wanna see some water and feel a bit of nature. They have some little boats you can rent and go onto the lake if you're interested. Bikes are also available for renting. Lots of little vendors with water, frozen treats, fruits, chips and one guy had some grilled pork/chicken on a stick that was amazingly good (I had the pork). Was kinda crowded and hard to find shade. I thought there would be more trees and it really should be. Not sure why they don't let more trees grow there. Restrooms were horrible...luckily I'm a guy and only had to pee...I feel bad for the ladies. I warned some females as I was leaving and could hear them scream as they walked in. It was funny but it wasn't funny at the same time. 😐

A nice park where you can take your family and pets. A lot of activities can be done here and they have on-site grill available for everyone to use.
Decent pathway around the lake (about 1.3 miles) with some elevation - perfect for jogging, walking, or running. I just hope that bird droppings will be cleaned because it can be slippery when you unknowingly stepped on one.
Playgrounds are available for kids - fun activities like slides, swings, etc. Vendors are available around the place making it more lively - they sell various stuff ranging from food items to toys and balloons.
No reservation necessary unless you want to reserve a spot under one of the shaded areas. I'd recommend getting there early and just set-up so no one beats you to your preferred spot.
Yes it is the best time to go to the lake is in the morning and around the trails as well! Feels nice this time of year although some times there is a light fog above.
There are grills, but you can also bring, you have a lot of space and ample parking, you will enjoy it if you go with your family or friends. Take care of yourself!
Today was very terrible in Balboa Lake because of very Hi speed wind and fishing was almost impossible from early morning till late afternoon we got only on very small catches and released
The park is suitable for passing your pet on a bicycle. Walk with a peace of mind. It is a place to walk. to think or have a dialogue. And dialogue.

There is no specific information on their site regarding this so I would say that it's allowed so long as it's not intrusive or otherwise against the park's stated policies.

I did see people hosting events like that when I was there last weekend, but idk what the official rule is on that at that moment. If it's less than 20 people I'd just do it but if it's a large event I'd Google the current rules on this just in case.
Dogs are allowed at the park. They have bbq grill ready to use. You can bring your own and set it up wherever you want but not near the lake and child recreation places.
Just like anywhere else in the state, you DO need a fishing license.. fish and wildlife does make there rounds here and there but not as often as in other areas and lakes..
Park Hours: Sunrise to Sunset
Lifeguard Hours: 9:00 am to Dusk
Fishing: During Park Hours
Boating: 9:00 am to Sunset, 365 days a year (weather permitting); last one-hour rental goes out one hour before sunset.
The only thing you need to ask permission for is if you use one of their benches that has a roof for a party, that you would have to pay. But if you will just do your party on any area it's free and you don't need to ask for permission to put your tables and chairs or your jumper.
No you don't need permission.. you have to get there early to save a spot for your party and clean up after your done with party. I recently saw someone getting married at the park with chairs for guest and alter🥰
Why do people assume that pit bulls are very dangerous animals. Don’t go me working there are some out there that are dangerous. But if you really think about it it’s really the owner. If the owner put time in training the dog they wouldn’t have that problem. But everyone have there own way of looking at things
Yes you can fish there. The lake has tilapia, carp and catfish. Not a lot, but they are there. Also, you need a fishing license to fish there. Don't know about fishing hours.
