The shelves looked pretty sad and empty but the selection is pretty nice, would like to see what they gave when it’s fully-stocked

If you are looking for a well-run business with a focus on sustainability, I would recommend Local Foods instead of Dill Pickle Co-Op. Dill Pickle's produce section contains absolutely everything that I can find at my local Jewel, and nothing more. Their bulk section has no way to tare weight your jars, so you end up paying extra. But most importantly - their staff is untrained and under managed. While I was emptying my cart onto the belt (I was the only customer), the cashier asked for my ID. I stopped what I was doing so I could retrieve it - and looked up to see his back to me and him looking at his phone. For probably ten seconds (this is longer than you think). Moreover, although there were three people behind the counter (again - I was the only customer), no one lifted a finger to bag my groceries. They all stood there, looking dumbly at their phones, while I bagged a cart's worth. I repeat - if you want a well-run grocery store with a focus on actual sustainability, go a few blocks east to Local Foods. The difference will astonish you.

Very Specialty. Very pricey. Had high expectations for Chicago's only food Co-op and was a bit disappointed. Seemed more dedicated to providing luxury local goods than making good food accessible.

I read many great things about this place, so maybe they raised my expectation too high. There were less bulk items than I was expecting. There's not much different in selection and pricing from Whole Foods. It is not worth the drive to go here, but if you are nearby this is great neighborhood small business! The staffs are very friendly and helpful too. I was hoping they use less packaging and plastics from the local products too, but maybe that's Chicago's health codes.

I don't know if they do for sure. But this would be a great place to find out where you can get raw milk.
That is a great question! It’s quite possible that we’re occupying an old National Tea grocery store. We are named after “The Dil Pickle Club”, a popular speakeasy club located in the South Loop between 1917 and 1935. The more you know!
I asked today and they said not right now. They will bring that option back later, but currently the pandemic health restrictions don't allow it.
Call the pickle to find out, but I haven't ever seen a dog in the store.
I have seen Havarti and Edam with Dill on sale in the cheese section.
It's best to go to the store and talk to someone. They have a yearly installment plan if you can't pay it all at once.
