A breath of fresh air from the busy streets. The historic house has coffee and comfy chairs where you can talk with others about conservation in Miami. They also offer birding trips almost every weekend. For me, as a noob in birding, it's a cool experience to go to the Everglades with their guide, point to a bird, take a painful guess, and then learn about it. They're so patient. 🐦

The Tropical Audubon Society of South Florida is a very nice place to be! They have tours of the Doc Thomas house every first Saturday of each month. They have eco-restoration tours every third Saturday of each month. They have many other fun events planned throughout the year. I have volunteered here about 3 times. The staff is very nice and helpful too, especially Amy. Join us on March 16 2019 for the Bee-cause Flea, a flea market with products made from bees!

If I lived in Miami this place would be my home away from home. It's peaceful, charming and historical. The house on the grounds is worth a visit. There are many places throughout the grounds to find a quiet spot to read a book and listen to the birds. They also do a lot of events. The Birdstock is my favorite! Until you see it, it is hard to beleive this place exists amongst all the noisy goings on of Miami life.

They have bird photography, paintings, drawings, etc.

Found a Clay colored sparrow nest and 4 eggs in a bower 6 feet off the ground in my entry courtyard. I am sure it is the Clay Colored sparrow. I live on the intracoastal, West Palm Beach, off South Flagler. Does anyone find that odd?

Yes, since the Clay Colored Sparrow breeds in Canada.
