I stumbled upon Hands On Broward while researching community service projects for my middle school twins. Since they were members of the National Junior Honor Society, their school requested that they fulfill 50 community service hours per year. It was soon evident that opportunities for 12 year olds were very scarce but Hands On Broward provided many options for them to participate in. It has since become a family affair, my husband and I volunteer alongside our kids (now in High School) in a variety of projects: baking cupcakes at the Ronald McDonald House, cleaning up Ft. Lauderdale Beach, beautifying Snyder Park, participating in MLK’s National Day of Service, hosting the Teen Volunteer Expo and many more. Volunteering with Hands On Broward has shown my kids that there is so much more to life and has made them more mature than other kids their age. As a family, it has been an extremely rewarding experience, giving us all a sense of community and a sense of purpose. Finally, it has launched our son into a Leadership Position where he has grown in leaps and bounds. Hands On Broward is a godsend for Broward County and the work they do is invaluable. Keep up the good work!

I can volunteer, just let me know when
Broward county animal care allows students to foster kittens. They teach you how to care for them and you earn 4 hours a day in high school volunteer credits and looks fantastic on those college resumes too. I foster newborns who were orphaned and my experiences are truly rewarding in ways that I hope everyone experiences in their lives. You do have to bottle feed on a regular basis and newborn kittens can't potty on their own for a couple weeks so you must act as their mother and help them potty regularly or the kittens won't survive. Basically your community service is an experience where you actually get to save these little lives and it's indescribable. My son received over 500 hours doing his services this way and it was very educational, it was a great deal of responsibility where failing is not a thought and rewards with a sense of such love a pride when you see your efforts hit milestones. Sorta a very small view into what responsibilities parenthood comes with as well. A
