This little art museum is actually a lot bigger than I thought it would be! It has some great permanent installations and a really wonderful changing installation at the moment. They also sometimes showcase art from students at UNC, and it’s great to see what the students are putting out

A nice art museum, with a variety of exhibits. Just a short walk from TOPO. Admission was free. The upstairs was closed. We were told it's only open during the school year.

I went last weekend and it was super fun! Lots of fascinating artifacts, but I was super intrigued by the sunset exhibit!! Sadly the gallery was closed, so we didn't get the full experience. Staff were sooo friendly!! I would definitely love to return.

One of the best art museums I've ever been to, a great find while I was staying in Chapel Hill. There was a really great variety of art, with lots of really interesting Asian and African art. There was a really great collection, I was very very impressed. Plus, its super interesting that the founder originally donated his collection to be displayed at Duke, but they wouldn't let him be buried in the museum, so he moved it to UNC!

Convenient parking is available at several nearby municipal and private parking decks (there are approximately 800 spaces in five nearby parking decks on Rosemary St all within a five-minute walk of the Ackland as well as the Carolina Square parking deck behind the Target on Franklin St), as well as over 430 metered spaces within a 10-minute walk of the Ackland. Parking validation is available for Ackland members at the Benefactor membership level and above. Use Park on the Hill (https://www.parkonthehill.com/) to learn more about all parking options. Zoom in twice and find the Ackland on Columbia Street just south of Franklin Street, behind Top of the Hill restaurant.
There is a parking nearby for $1:50 an hour.
