I was a patient of the Retreat, the Birches, and the Anna Marsh Clinic. Two simple words describe the place; Complete Disorganization. While incarcerated in the Retreat, I was treated kindly by the staff, however, I took the trouble to be present and attentive. Still, I believe that all patients should be treated equally, and it bothered me watching the staff treat other patients with condescension and irritation. While I only met with the doctor over zoom, she was kind, thorough, and professional. My time at the Birches was very difficult. The program was not a good fit for me, but the staff were kind and helpful. The doctor I zoomed with was fantastic. He was so insightful, understanding, and kind I looked forward to my appointments with him. Then I went on to receive treatment at the Anna Marsh Clinic. I was assigned a therapist and met by zoom with the psychiatrist. The therapist was nice enough, but Dr. Hagstrom was a nightmare. In the course of our first meeting he mocked me to my face and told me he no longer enjoyed his work!! During our second meeting I shared with him a quote that I found very meaningful. He laughed out loud and told me it was the funniest thing he had ever heard. By our third meeting I had learned not to share anything with him because that was the only way I could protect myself from his antagonism. I called to lodge a grievance, and no one knew who the patient advocate was. I left a message, but no one ever got back to me. Why am I not surprised?

I was supposed to have my first appointment today, an important step in finally getting a handle on my personal demons, but instead I was stood up & ignored. I sat & stared at a blank zoom meeting screen for 30 minutes before I gave up on the meeting. Then I called the office & was told the therapist I was supposed to meet with took the day off …. Nobody even bothered to call me, my appointment was at 11 am so they had more than enough time to notify me. It was INCREDIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL & I feel worse off now than before I tried getting help. I really don’t care what happened for her to need to take the day off, as a therapist she & her office have a responsibility to their patients, you don’t just ignore someone who’s in need. Shame on you Betty & your entire staff. I wish I had read the other reviews before I put my trust & mental health into their hands.

It was more traumatizing being in this facility both times I went than it was helpful. I do not recommend. It is very obvious that the workers are not happy there and some are just plain cruel. I feel bad for the very few that actually care. This is not a place for mental health services, you will get nothing except being forced to take medications even if you do not give consent. There is no therapy one on one, just group where you have to sit with people detoxing off drugs and it can be a very unstable, and traumatizing setting to be in if you are there for mental health. Extremely disappointed in lack of care, and outraged that I was then asked to donate money two years after I left. The $15,000 wasn't enough??

Just because two people care about each other, doesn’t mean they are good for each other.
Call the main number and ask for the units address
Yes, the Brattleboro Retreat has a program for veterans. Call 1-800-RETREAT or visit www.brattlebororetreat.org/usp
In my experience, any clothes without any sort of strings or buttons on them are acceptable. For toiletries, anything you send has to be unopened and shampoos and body wash must be see through. They also provide toothpaste and shampoo and soap there. If you'd like to send him books they allow that too. I wish your husband luck!
So fiance probably isn't good enough
