Great experience, friendly staff and incredibly delicious trout. Treat yourself and try the smoked fish too.

I've been going here since I was a baby I've always loved feeding the fish here

This place is a gem for family a kids. We had a lot of fun feeding the trout. The management was very polite and helpful. And the fish sandwich...yum!!! No "fishy" taste whatsoever! Maybe a little …

What a sham. We stopped in here as the highlight of our visit to the so-called Maple Festival. Ho boy did this venture suck. First off, unless you live in Highland County there is absolutely no reason to drive to this so-called festival. It should be called the Highland County Arts & Crafts Festival. Never again. It takes an hour to travel 20 miles through the mountains, Our daughter got car sick and threw up. There are more turns and curves than in a bowl of spaghetti. There was almost nothing at the festival about the maple syrup industry You have to drive outside of town to visit the sugar houses and then put up with more people and no place to park. There were some nice crafts vendors, if you like the crafts thing but then you had to pay $3 each just to visit the auditorium. And get this, the maple syrup there was 1/3 more per half gallon than at Trader Joe's, (I checked). So I’m standing in line waiting to pay for our syrup. Standing in line. Still standing in line. Finally, after the lady is done talking about her sons baseball team and how best to individually wrap the 15 pieces of maple candle for the guy 3 people in front of me I finally get to pay. “I’m sorry but we don’t take credit cards.” You must be f%*#@ing kidding me. And then to make it perfectly disappointing, I saved the visit to this trout hatchery for last. This place is poorly maintained, run down with litter everywhere. They were featuring trout sandwiches and the chance for kids to fish in the trout pond. We get there and… yep – no fishing allowed that day. But wait there’s more! They ran out of fish sandwiches. Seriously. How in the heck does a fish hatchery run out of fish sandwiches? So we ended up spending a buck on 8 cents worth of trout feed (which looks very much like chicken pellets) so our 4 year old can at least have that memory. This hatchery must be run by some of the laziest people in the County. They couldn't have cared less if we wanted o buy frozen or smoked trout as they were all too busy talking among themselves. We walked out. Why the hatchery doesn't have a booth selling trout sandwiches and trout chowder at the festival has got to be one of the biggest business blunders I've ever heard of. You have thousands of people walking around Monterey that would certainly buy sandwiches. Again, it has got to be laziness. If your in the area then maybe take a moment to see the fish but certainly don't go out of your way.
