Very nice, peaceful country campground. Nicely maintained except for some rutting in the roads on hills. Staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday in June and basically had most of the campground to ourselves. Lots of tent camping with tall shade trees, many RV sites and a couple cabins. We stayed at RV site 28, which was full service and had decent WiFi. Cellular is poor as you would expect from a remote location. Highly recommended this campground.

By far my favorite place to go camping. Even from the first time my husband and I went we were treated like friends, not customers. Gary and Nadine go out if their way to make sure everyone is happy and comfortable, they are very warm and inviting. The campground is very clean, and the sites are very spacious. My favorite is the lodge, it offers games, pool table, darts and a super cozy and super cute reading room or even just hanging out on the top deck with a spectacular view.

Beautiful mountain views, peaceful hikes in nature, and rocking chairs at the Lodge just chewing the fat - Gary’s Cox Camping is a hidden gem offering a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. I rarely write reviews and feel obliged to do so now, as Gary and his wife (the “women handling checkin” in one the review) are two of the kindest, outgoing, patient and humble people you will meet. The characterization of the “women handling checkin” is not a fair or accurate representation of her or the business they run together. As such, I will give you my viewpoint after staying at the campground seven times and counting… The first thing you will find is a peaceful, clean, and safe campground. Hands down, this is a place where you can relax away from the hustle and bustle life presents each of us regardless of our station in life. While here (yes, I am writing this review while at campground) you will take in the breathtaking views of the nearby ridge line offering stunning sunrises if you are an early riser. The campground is perfectly located to service as a basecamp for nearby Great Cacapon State Park, Berkeley Springs, WV and just a short drive to Prospect Peak (which according the the marker, The National Geographic Magazine rates it as “among America’s outstanding beauty spots”) - especially nice for those that miss the sunrise at Gary’s Cox Camping to take in an incredible sunset! Gary owns, operates, and manages this family-friendly campground. He takes great pride in what he has worked to build over the many years with his family and friends. In my opinion this campground is a representation of all of those hard working, dedicated, down to earth folks. In a time of an (arguably) downward trend in customer service, Gary’s Cox Camping bucks that trend. If you are looking for individual customer attention, and firm hand shake and a smile, look no further. You will not be treated as just another customer, Gary and the “women handling checkin” will treat you as their guest. So, if you have made it this far in reading my review, I’ll leave you with this. I ask that you go to Gary’s Cox Camping and when you call Gary, tell him “Tim sent you!” and I’ll put my name on the line and state in no uncertain terms the above review is what you will experience. If not, just tell Gary or the “women handling checkin” that Tim was wrong and why. I’ll let Gary know to call me and I’ll gladly pay for your night. I make this offer with the certain expectation I will not have to spend a single dollar! Rather, you will be the one that gains priceless memories in a truly remarkable place.

A TRUE HIDDEN GEM!! . I took my kids here on different weekends to get some time with them. Affordable tent camping too. You choose your own site. Gary was a great host. He came to check on us when I told him I really liked another site but didn't see a fire ring. He told me to go on over and he'd bring me one down. So accommodating. Restroom facilities are better than most State Parks we've been to. They have a pond there that is pretty small if there are a lot of people fishing....but we pulled out a dozen fish each weekend (kept the kids interested and happy). In fact, they didn't want to go on our hike the next morning, they just wanted to go back fishing. The best part for me is that it was quiet and secluded. The sites weren't right on top of each other- which lets me relax a bit too having two young kids and not having to 'sush' them all night. The cabins and RV lots are a loop at the top of the hill. We are down the hill in the tents on our own loop- couldn't see 'em or hear 'em...it was great. I'll be honest, with me having a history of staying in State parks or KOA type campgrounds, I had some reservations about keeping the kids busy, crowd noise, proximity to bathrooms, etc...this place exceeded all my expectations by FAR! Plus its a good place to stay and do things around the area. This area has so many things to do!
