The DPW members who run the transfer station are very friendly. You have to pay $25 for a sticker on your car in order to enter and it's only available to locals. A swap shed is on the property where people can leave items working or potentially repairable condition for others to take. Useful if you're in need of some old furniture for something and occasionally you can score "treasures" like the one time I found a Compaq Portable. As far as disposal of trash and recyclables go you must sort them yourself ahead of time and be sure to put them in the correct containers.

This facility is well organized. Carlisle recycles many different items and the bins are arranged all around the perimeter. There are also several trash compactors. The area is kept clean and the bins are never overflowing. It's a great place to recycle everything from your household. Despite the multiple bins traffic flows smoothly around the area. As you might expect it's a little busier on Saturday but you really don't get delayed even if you have to stop at a lot of the recycling bins. Stickers are required and are $25/year available at the police station. Bring your registration and driver's license and note you MUST pay by check. So be prepared!

No. They check your registration to see that you live in Carlisle.
You can discard mattresses there. I do not believe that they allow mattresses to be put into the Swap Shed. About the only things you can't discard year-round at the Transfer Station are "HazMats" -- paints and paint-related materials, automotive fluids, pesticides, etc. There's an annual Hazardous Waste Day every spring for those materials.
