The campground is clean and the park ranger is very friendly and helpful. The star around the lake is beautiful too!! The only thing not too great is that there were people fishing at night around the lake, they had the lights on and super loud.

Nice campground with tent pads (our site would have been big enough for at least a 10’x10’ tent). Prices are okay, not amazing and the lake is a nice walk. There are picnic tables! I looked through all the other reviews and couldn’t find this info before going, but all sites have them.

Very nice camping ground and great view from the lake, especially for star gazing. No entrance ticket needed, you can drive to the campsite, if it is vacant, you …

Was just at Spruce Knob Lake campground a couple weeks ago and drove there with my Honda fit. Some of the road is gravel and has quite a few pot holes but not too bad. Drive slow and dodge the pot holes when you can.
I believe single sites allow for 2 vehicles and double sites for 4 with no additional charges above the site fees. Double sites cost more than single. More info is available on site at recreation.gov.
The view of the sky from Spruce Knob Lake is wide and amazing! There are places at the Spruce Knob overlook area too.
You do have to pay for the camp site but if you do not reserve a spot online you can show up and try to find an unreserved spot and then pay when you get there. (there are signs in front of each camp site that say if it reserved or not)
I do not believe that is allowed.
No, it closes for winter. October 11 this (2020) season.
Ya you probably wont get ahold of anyone. All i can tell you is that if you didnt make a reservation you can just drive by the vacant sites and check the little tag on the board that tells the date that someone reserved. If no one is using it for that night you just claim it and pay the next morning. Oh and if you need firewood you will see it piled up by the camper at the entrance to the sites
Cook or do whatever you want as long as you abide by the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. quiet hours
No. And also bring plenty of water. I was there a few weekends ago and their water pump wasn't working so drinking / cooking / cleaning water may still not be available
Yes. They're all great.
Yes
In short, taking an RV here is not recommended. While some of the campsites could probably fit a vehicle that large, I wouldn't recommend taking one there. Especially if it's your first time driving one. The road that takes you over the mountain to get to the campground from Riverton is narrow and not entirely paved and the road from the west side of the mountain isn't paved either. There are many large pot-holes and tight switchbacks. The campground is better suited for tent camping over RV camping in my opinion and definitely more easily accessed by cars/trucks. Someone who came with me when I went this past Labor Day weekend drove a Honda Insight and had little trouble making the drive.
You'll see the check in right when you pull up. The manager is super nice. If he isn't there he's doing his rounds. If you have a reservation find your spot and he'll find you. If no reservation find a non reserved spot they will be marked... Mgr is always around... O yeah he is super nice.
No. This is a primitive campground. All primitive campgrounds lack these.
Yes they do have a grill over pit.
Yes, but we are just there this week and we were the only ones in the campsite with plenty of open spots, so if you are in the area last minute, this time of year, might be worth just trying
