This place was good to me as a kid. They do a lot for the kids, they held dances, church services, etc. I even had private tutoring to teach me my multiplication. Nothing but good memories from this place.

I was there back in 2002 when I was 4 going on 5, i was also accompanied by my younger sister & brother. I was only there for a few days before my Grandmother took us in, But what I have yet to forget was the fun I did have with the Summer Santa they had.

They feed you well if you are a person in this shelter. I remember I was one of the very few persons who successfully ran away from this place. Yes am still proud cause I wasn't gonna let any of them convince me into anything or abuse me just cause my mom only spoke Spanish they thought they could run anything but I knew English. I left cause it was like being locked away. The juvenile Hall is right next door and so is the jail on the other side of this place. I went to one of them because this place called the police on me since I was labeled bad person since I didn't let them have any control on me or an opportunity to do anything corrupted to me. But it's purpose is good cause its meant to provide shelter for abuse kids. What they stand for is the only good thing about this place just be smart and do not let them outsmart you.......

When I was there for two weeks it was really pleasant. The first day I was there, there was a carnival, it was really nice and brought my spirits up. There was an incident a couple days later when a I was in class (they have school or classes in there, but it’s honestly horrible since they don’t put you in the right grade, you could literally be in fourth grade and attend an eight grade class) and a guy was angry and crying and tried to run out of class, I don’t remember but I think he was tackled. Anyways, the day before I left I went into the pool which was nice, also the arcade was fun, it had a couple of games and a pool table. The thing I hated about this place is that me and my sister couldn’t live in the same room with our brother who was six or seven at the time which was just plain cruel. I hated that I had to spend my eleventh birthday in there but they did try their best to cheer me up. I got presents from them which was nice. Also if you do chores you can get an iPad for a day or a radio for a day, which was honestly really nice. But they took away my tablet which I hated. I’ve seen some reviews and this place has really truly changed. Everyone’s so nice, the food is amazing, and if you want more just ask. Tho there was an incident With me, my brother wanted more fries but they told him to eat more of his food, I was being overprotective and got myself fries and gave it to him, she gave me a look and was about to take the fries when I slapped her hand. I don’t feel bad about it, she should have know better. We were children who were just taking away, of course we would do anything to make sure the other is having a good time. She was shocked, she told the person who was looking after me and I just didn’t care. It wasn’t talked about again. The day my of my 11 birthday me and my sister had to get shots since I guess you have to get a new shot once you turn 11. Other than that I really liked this place, it’s changed and for what I can see, for the better. I wish I never came in the first place but things happen, but I recommend this place for children who were taken away, I’m glad I was sent here.

Staff there need to be trained or school at least, for watching and being with kids who clearly been through trauma or whatever they’re there for. Last visit was the worst, staff will argue and get their way. Cottage for teen girls has rude staff
