Good sailing and surfing classes! Instructors are pretty all over the place but all love sailing and know their stuff. Sailing dingy rental rates are pretty good but really worth the monthly rate sailing pass.

Great place if you're a UCLA student, can go kayaking for free, and also try other watersports.

Wow. All watesports. Learn, and play. Thanks to UCLA. Open to the public. No experience needed to rent kayaks and paddleboard. Lessons for sailing, windsurfing etc are slightly cheaper if you join UCLA Recreation.

If you're into rowing, sailing, kayaking and more this place is for you. The cost is beyond reasonable. The setting is beautiful. The people who go there are wonderful. And . . . the workout you get on the water is the best you can get.

I believe they have a kayaking course that covers this. If not West LA College Westside Extension does have a course that covers safety and self rescue
Not sure. You could try Craig Leads at the Califirnia Yacht Club (also at Marina deli Rey), but it's sculling, not sweep rowing.
