I love Cheddar, the harbor cat.

'21/11 1st time visitor/review: -- This active, unpolished fishing/recreational boat harbor is worth the drive down from the coastal highway. It's very easy to miss the entire harbor and turn off, as way down north east side of highway as pass over long, high bridge having site diverted to spectacular ocean view on west side. -- Lots to see packed into the small space: a multi-level hotel, at least 4 restaurants (some with seating on the harbor), commercial boats, recreational boats, and an off-leash dog park at the dead end (where we parked sitting in the car out of the wind eating a late afternoon picnic snack while watching the boats return from sea). -- Has potential for family outing rustic experience vs polished amusement park. That said, it is a historic (old) harbor, so vehicle space is tight and can take some navigating savvy for physically handicapped.

I don't like some changes made concerning the harbor and " up grades" that really are not. Message board at boat launch is political now; just fix the road.

Charter a boat, fishing trip, buy fresh seafood, and dine with the salt n brine. Authentic, functioning harbor on the scenic northern California coast
