I like old school gyms that are not shiny and pristine, but what I don't like is how often equipment is broken and how long it stays broken for. As an example, this gym used to have a "trap bar" that broke and never got replaced. There's always at least one broken cable machine here. There is also a lot of teenagers that workout here and most of them haven't been taught gym etiquette. I usually work out here late and will say that they are pretty thorough with their cleaning, but whoever they use to repair the machines and re-line the padding on the machines does a pretty poor job, either that, or they pay as minimal as possible and they are getting what they pay for. With this being the last Gold's Gym in WV, my concern is that it isn't going to be that for long. Lastly, this used to be a 24/hour gym before Covid. They have not yet returned to being a 24/hour operation and I believe that goes hand in hand with the equipment quality. Someone is being cheap.

My wife and I went there to become members and had a coupon in hand saying it was a $1 sign up fee. It did not stipulate on what membership you had to sign up for or anything. It was specifically for the Charles Town, WV location and had an expiration date of April 30, 2022. When we spoke with Lynn, she said she wasn’t going to honor it as it did not apply to the VIP Membership that my wife and I wanted to sign up for. It was essentially the same sign up and plan as their FIT 2 membership. I told Lynn that this seems to be false advertisement as there wasn’t any specific stipulation on what plan this coupon would be accepted for. She stated that the VIP Membership is exclusive. Instead of honoring it and gaining paying customers, she refused to accept it and lost customers. My wife and I then proceeded to go to True Performance Fitness and became members there. Hopefully people read mine and other people’s reviews and see how this place is managed.

My friend and I came to visit for the week! This gym was the best not only did we feel very welcomed they made us feel like family. Lynn is AMAZING! You can tell she has a pure passion for what she does. The spin class was killer! Highly recommend if you want a great cardio workout. Wish we were locals would be here everyday!

Positive: Has everything you need meet your fitness goals. Equipment is in pretty good shape. Staff are welcoming and friendly. No drama. Negative: A bit outdated and needs a facelift. Cardio area seems to be crammed and squashed together. Men's bathroom is nasty. Urinal/toilet area is always musty and smells like urine. Certain sinks don't work. Mirrors have rust on the edges. Sink caulking has mold growing.
