First of all, be aware that this is a brand-new visitor center as of my visit in June, a cooperation between the National Park Service and Thousand Springs Idaho State Park. that’s important to know because it is easy to mess up and go to the old location in downtown Hagerman. The new location is really nice, but there is not a huge amount of parking, especially if you are in an RV. When I was there they were still getting things completed at the visitor center but still had great exhibits. The Hagerman fossil beds are known for the Hagerman horse which has one toe and is unusual because there are a number of bird fossils as well. at this time, you should visit the NPS website and watch the park film online before you go. When I was there the auditorium was not ready to use yet. It’s also worth knowing that you can’t really visit any of the fossil bed areas. Thousand Springs State Park has several units to visit in the area. You will need to purchase a day pass to visit most of those.

Basically...it's just wide open planes not worth the trip. We even had a hard time finding it. I was picturing a big National Park only to find almost nothing but a little sign. I'm sure there a a few hiking trails but don't expect any information booth, restrooms or really anything.

Was on a 8 hour drive back home and stopped to see what Hagerman, Idaho had to offer. It's a bit of a drive to get there from the interstate. I'm sure it's due to COVID restrictions but the visitor center was closed. Still worth the drive to stop at the scenic view. Absolutely beautiful!

This NPS site is small and on the Main Street of a tiny town, but it is great nonetheless. Jay was full of information to share! He recommended a local hike to us and it was fabulous.

There are trails that run parallel to the Historic Oregon trail. All are in the sun.. no shade. No fossil digs.
About 10 minutes. In Hagerman. It is rather in and back in an obvious way.
