THIS PLACE IS SO NICE!! A LOT OF BREAD AND GOOD TASTE

This place has one of the best turkey sandwiches I've had. The multi grain sourdough bread is a treat and the ingredients are fresh. The chipotle sauce was not to spicy but definitely added a kick. Finally the little cheese square inside the sandwich is the cherry on top. And you get a pickle or two on the side. I've been coming here over the past 6-7 years and am surprised at how great and consistent the food is here. Not too pricy either.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that the chocolate halva muffin CHANGED MY LIFE. True bakery bliss. And... get this - it was gluten-free?!? I can eat gluten and enjoy baked goods, so I am typically skeptical of gluten-free baked goods -- especially something like a muffin. But this muffin was as fluffy, moist, and delicious as the most delicious glutenous chocolate cake one could dream of. The soft, creamy halva core was extremely tasty and ran all the way through the muffin, pairing so well with the delectable chocolate flavor - not too chalky or hard or strongly flavored like halva can be. If this muffin could be made into a cake form, I would order it for every special occasion for the rest of my life... I cannot wait to have this muffin again!!

Even if you haven't been to Bread Lounge's bakery cafe in the Arts District, you probably have seen their packaged baked goods somewhere (cookies, pound cake, etc). At the cafe, they have a whole lot more to offer: pastries, bread loaves, and a large menu of sandwiches. Let's start with the croissant: it's not that great. While it's definitely better than supermarket croissants, it doesn't meet my standard except for the nice layers. It's soft, neither flaky nor buttery. Unsurprisingly, the same texture goes for the ham & cheese croissant I had. Fortunately the everything seasoning with poppy seeds and white sesame on top elevated the otherwise dull experience. The other pastry that I have tried is the chocolate pistachio twist. I liked it more than the croissants because there is more clarity in both its texture and particular taste. Bette than their pastries are the delicious house-made sandwiches. I had two so far and I enjoyed them both. The first time I got a "Have A Ball" with tasty, juicy meatballs and fresh tomatoes. Then I came back and had the "Against the Stream" (lox, cream cheese, cucumber) on a Jerusalem Bagel–a soft, oval bagel that is about twice the size of a New York style bagel. The sandwich was refreshing and filling. I'm not a fan of the cafe's service (not unfriendly, neither warm) or interior (dim and a bit old school), but the shaded backyard patio is a hidden gem, that is, if you are lucky enough to get a table there.

Parking lot is small but accessible. Metro Line 18 bus going east or west will drop you off within 1 block or less walking distance. Very convenient for locals.
