Edit: I think Hope Village should invest in air-conditioning, heating, and electricity for the tiny houses. (Yes there's a solar panel, but it can only power lights and a small fan for 12 hrs). It gets unbelievably hot in the houses during the summer. It makes living here almost unbearable. Also, mandating paying clients here to clean up after other people, as well as the mandatory meetings, and gate watch - it takes time away from my work, my school, and various appointments I have. The gate watch especially is really unnecessary. It would be much more practical to give residents a key for them to come and go when they need. Some people here have to leave at night, but they can't because they don't have a key to the entrances, and no one does gatewatch at night. It seems like the managers at Hope Village want the people here to be "doing something", so they mandate clients here to do BS-jobs (without pay); it takes away time from actual productive things like work or school. It also seems like the people in charge of this program don't trust homeless people. Perhaps the city is involved in these weird rules, but it really gives an impression that they view homeless people as lazy and can't be trusted. I really feel like many aspects of the Hope Village is worse than the Kelly Shelter.
