I lived at Avalon Dunn Loring for almost two years. Overall, I generally liked the place with the exception of a few things. The good: 1. I always had positive interactions with the staff. When signing the original lease, the leasing office was very communicative and helpful to me. Afterward, and throughout the remainder of my lease, the concierge and maintenance staff were always very kind and helpful for whatever my need was at the time. 2. The apartment unit was nice. The Vivint system (door locks/interior lighting) was so nice - it tied into my smart home configuration and worked with my home automation. Upon moving in, my apartment unit was spotlessly cleaned and, with hard flooring through the main areas, it was easy to keep it that way through my lease. Also, large windows filled the space with sunlight. The floor/ceiling transferred sound relatively easily and I could often hear footsteps overhead, but I suppose that's just part of living in a non-concrete structure. 3. The building was very clean. There were, of course, exceptions with inconsiderate residents not cleaning up after their pets, but the things that management was actually responsible for (trash/recycling rooms, hallway carpet cleaning, amenity cleaning, general upkeep, etc.) were always squared away. Additionally, I never saw any pests/insects in any common area or inside my unit. 4. This place is centrally located to almost everything - 495, 66, Mosaic District, Dunn Loring Metro Station, W&OD Trail, etc. The bad: 1. The fire alarm issue was a recurring, frustrating mystery to me. While some alarms were from hallway (common space) pull station 'pulls' (legit issue), others were from hallway (common space) pull station 'prank pulls' (criminal issue), and then others were from a system malfunction. This issue was worse for my family because we have a dog and often had to wonder if she [the dog] would be subjected to an unexpected, blaring alarm (thinking of a dog's sensitive ears) while we weren't home and able to take her out of the apartment. While I realize some (or maybe even most?) of these occurrences were outside of management's control, it was a frustrating part of my experience of which I believe potential residents should simply be aware. 2. The garage door of the 'secure garage' was broken for months at a time. Repairs were reportedly delayed due to COVID-19 supply chain issues and the door remained open until the repair was completed. 3. Some inconsiderate residents - this one is quick and easy: Stop smoking inside your units and clean up after your pet(s). 4. Verizon cell service was terrible inside my unit. I suppose it was something with the building construction because my service was fine once I stepped outside. While there were good and bad experiences for me, I realize that no place is perfect. I generally liked the place and believe that management/concierge/maintenance sincerely tried to do their best with the resources available. For that, I'm appreciative of them and would recommend anyone stop by for a tour to form your own opinion. Thank you, ADL!

I recently moved here and have really enjoyed the process. Kim at the leasing office was really helpful and very polite. She answered all questions I had and really showed attention and care for the residents living here. Highly recommend too anybody whose looking for a place to call home. :) thanks!!

My experience moving in here was incredibly simple and intuitive. The staff was wonderful and the concierge Kimberly was more than helpful with any issues I had and very quickly resolved all of them while keeping a smile on her face! She was great both during applying for an apt. and during my time as a resident. Jose was also very generous and efficient while assisting me with minor issues that were in my apt. after moving in!

This truly is a great place to live, I only had to leave for work reasons but if I could, I’d always stay here. First, the leasing office is great! In the 2+ years I lived here, Becca in the leasing office was great! She was the main person I talked with regarding my lease and apartment related stuff, but every time I spoke with her she made me feel like she was treating me like as if I had the most expensive, fanciest apartment in the building (which I didn’t, I was in a regular 1Bdr, that was great btw). But she was always honest with whatever she told me. I never got blindsided by any charges that hadn’t been explained to me before hand. Point I’m trying to get across is that the leasing office is easy and great to work with. Morgan from the leasing office is also great to work with. A very special shout out to Jose from the maintenance team, he is extremely respectful and always promptly responds to any maintenance requests you may place. The management also seems to care about who they hire as the front desk concierge because they’re all great. In particular shout out to Kim, she always helped me out to the best of her scope of control. This is a great place to live, it’s close to so many restaurants, stores, so close to the metro which is in walking distance, and so close to a convenience store that’s literally on the same street (The Bodega). It’s a safe neighborhood, in all my time living here never once experienced a theft/criminal situation. Food trucks come over often, it’s awesome. To be transparent, what I will say is occasionally, fire alarms will go off. All of them regarding things that individuals may cause in their apartments. I for one found it a bit annoying, but I also took it as the property having safety controls in place to help with my safety, but I definitely understand the annoyance with having to leave your apartment in a rush for something that turns out to be “nothing”. Even when this happens the Fire Department shows up in what seems like seconds. Also, since the Blackfinn Pub is close to the building you may be inconvenienced by some drunk people occasionally yelling on the streets on late Saturday nights. I, for one, didn’t find it reason enough to leave. It doesn’t happen that often, but it does happen. Just thought I’d make this known in my review. Overall, it’s an absolutely great place to live! You’ll find the employees to be extremely personable. Once again, special shout out to Jose in maintenance, Kim at the front desk, Sandy (who has since left to a different Avalon property), and Becca & Morgan in the leasing office!. I did not get paid or compensated in any way to make this review. It’s always hard to find great apartments to live in so everything I just mentioned is genuine.
