I LOANED the Museum 2 banks of antique post office boxes from the 1890's era in the Gold Hill,NC Post Office. They had been used--the exact same boxes--by FIVE generations of my family. One was displayed for a period of time. The other one was not displayed and only moved to a storage building just to become lost. I, on many occasions requested that they be returned to me in the same condition as they were in when I loaned them to the museum. They now tell me that they have lost the keys and the original combination locks. I requested compensation for my lost articles. As of yet, they have only offered a token of the value and nothing even close to being my items. They have offered replicas and not with the locks, keys or replacement combination locks. Sadly, I WOULD NOT SUGGEST THAT ANYONE LOAN THEM ANYTHING!! Aaron Kepley is now the Executive Director of the museum and he has refused to fairly compensate me for their negligence and the loss of my heirlooms. Aaron Kepley will not even respond to my voice mail messages or emails requesting a response. Be careful as to what you loan the ROWAN MUSEUM because I can prove their negligence and failure to return the articles. Russell Wayne Eller formerly of Gold Hill, NC Update: Now several more minutes months have passed and the issue has not been resolved and Aaron Kepley refuses to acknowledge or respond to my several voicemails or emails. Really disappointing by their loosing my antique heirlooms and then refusing to make things right and compensate me for the loss that was a result of their carelessness. Now, it is May 11,2021 and still no resolution or compensation for their loss of my property. Aaron Kepley will not return my phone calls or answer my emails. Pretty sorry for an EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR to ignore this matter. Obviously he thinks that the issue will go away if he ignores it. Actually he is wrong. Now, he becomes a party to a Civil Suit because of his job title and his fiduciary responsibilities of representing a government body. He will be named in the lawsuit individually and severally with the museum and the county. I regretfully have spoken with an attorney in Raleigh, NC that specializes in this type of litigation. Also, Kepley has said and written unfounded and derogatory comments about me to his insurance company. Slander and Libel are both criminal and civil violations of law and have been proven to be very expensive. I regret to say that I am moving forward on both issues. And all I wanted was the return of my property that I loaned to the museum sixteen years ago.

Nice little museum. Docent was extremely nice and let us in early as didn't realize it didn't open until 1 and we were there before noon. Quaint downtown area and the church next to the museum was beautiful but locked so no seeing inside.
