Maybe for lack of other assignments during covid-19, there were multiple employees on duty today. That would be fine except that I had to explain to four different people what kind of batteries I was dropping off (among other materials). Google Maps shows the "Recovery Center" across the street from where it is actually located. I've submitted a correction, but I don't know if Google will incorporate the change or not.

I love the book swap. I get rid of foam, CFL light bulbs, clothes, metal scraps, and large cardboard, and then grab a book or two. Everyone is incredibly helpful. I find a great way to store used CFL bulbs is in 6 pack beer cartons.

Very well run and organized. The entire area is clean, every location labeled and easy to access, and the attendants (I met two at diffferent times) are pleasant and willing to help. It is a place where you can easily dispose of large cardboard boxes, styrofoam, plastic, books, and even donate to charities.

I was at the depot two weeks ago - the depot was very clean and neat. The attendant was very helpful. Very impressive. Thank you.

There's a paint shed where people can swap latex paint - must be less than 3 years old and at least half full
I was able to leave an old tv...I had to pay a $25 fee online and show proof of the paid fee.
Tires are accepted for recycling at the Rumford facility. In addition, tires can be picked up on your regular trash pickup day as a "bulky item" but you must schedule the bulky item pickup by no later than 3:30pm the business day before your regular trash pickup.
That would be considered hazardous waste (HHW), which can be dropped off at Rumford on designated HHW collection days, which are on the first Saturday of every month and third Thursday of every month from April to December.

Call bulk pickup. You may only leave metal, cardboard, rigid plastic or certain hazardous materials at the recycling depot. Go to the city web site for more explanation about the hazardous items. Some hazardous substances are only accepted twice a month, 1st Saturday and 3rd Thursday each month.

Yes. Ask one of the crew at the site. They have a shed for taking small electronics. Large items you will need to call the city for a special pick up. But printers, laptops, toys, games etc. they will accept.
No. That you have to call the city about. That is construction debris.
Electronics like printers and sound equipment can be recycled at the Rumford Recycling Depot.
They accept non-alkaline batteries. Alkaline batteries go in the trash.
If they are wooden pickets, then no. However, plastic and metal fencing can be recycled at the recycling depot.
Yes, you have to have proof that you are a Newton resident.
The Rumford facility will accept an old grill as scrap metal. If there is a fuel cylinder, that can also be dropped off and left in a separate area of the yard.
