To my understanding, the Catholic Church believes that she (the Catholic Church) has no authority to ordain women to the diaconate (office of deacon), presbyterate (priesthood), or to the episcopate (office of bishop). This is because the Twelve Apostles, including St. Peter, the first pope whom Catholics believe to be the rock of the church, never ordained women as deacons. Look at the Book of Acts 6:1-7. Following in the footsteps of The Twelve, the Church believes that in doing so, she is adhering to her Sacred Tradition. Formation of male deacons is a lengthy process, approximately 5 years. The immediate future of female deacons is, to my understanding, non-existent. I hope that this helps you.
