Location is beautiful and isolated. Only about 32 sites. The only reason is not getting 5 stars is because there is no water or dump station. Crested Butte water management offers a paid dump station in town which is only 10-15 mins away.

Make the reservation online. No one answers that phone and the state campground authority cannot help you with that either. Making reservations online though is pretty painless though.
The campground seems to be closed until July 15th or 14th. Are the dispersed camping sites past the campgrounds also closed?
Free sites? Not that I know of. The campground is closed until mid July. Unless the old pump has been fixed, that is not likely, no drinking water anywhere in the campground Snow on the nearby trails is likely.
