BPW is gorgeous in the fall. The weather was beautiful, and while the trails were unmarked, it was still easy to find out way. I had an amazing experience and I will add this place to my list of frequent visits.

Some areas were blocked off including main parking lot. Trail needs grooming and streams are dried. Still peaceful to hike through. Bring plenty of water for your pups and yourself πΎππ

Actually a pretty rare little micro-climate, it should be better maintained. I've seen some unique slugs and fungi and it seems to be fed by a natural spring, year round creek. Some ravines and islands and elevation changes, maybe 50ft max. Pretty in the early spring before the mosquitoes take over or in the fall. I've also seen some native plants here that are harder to find outside of places like Starved Rock or Shawnee National Forrest, like this Native carnivorous pitcher plant rising up in the photos. This place was preserved as a pre-columbian micro ecosystem due to the unusually rough terrain in my opinion.

Quiet and peaceful place for a hike with a little elevation gain.
