An outstanding area for hiking, flowers, bird watching and wildlife viewing - especially antelope, coyote, bighorn sheep. Solitude guaranteed hiking cross country on the upper reaches of Hart Mountain, incredible views, cold and still snow patches in April and May, but you get to soak in the hot spring at the end of the day . Camping at the hot springs campground or down on the valley floor at the Camp Hart Mountain site. The gravel road to OR 305 heading east from the HQ towards Frenchglen was in terrible condition with severe washboards when I was last there in 2019 or 2020, NOT RECOMMENDED for towing a trailer.

Big, desolate, lonely. Miles of sagebrush punctuated by the occasional antelope and raptor. Bring bug spray and lots of water. Nice open country hiking

Spent 8 days--7 at the hot springs camp ground and one at the top of Juniper. Managed to track down around 30 California Bighorn Rams, scores of lambs and ewes, countless antelope, a couple snakes, and one mountain lion 😣

What are the smoke predictions for Thursday, August 2 thru Sunday, August 5? We are planning a camping trip to Hart Mountain, but if the smoke is bad we'll opt for the coast. We live in Ashland and are tired of the smoke. Thanks, Wes-

There is room at the campground for a RV; if you don't want to go up the grade road, there is also a campground near the base of the escarpment that provides plenty of room for a RV also.

Are there fresh running water at the camp ground near the hot springs?

The water at the campground is not potable, the visitors center is open year time and the water is running all year. I've been there in the middle of the winter and there was still heat and water in the drop in visitor area.
