Some days you can be fairly far away and still get the overwhelming wave of nasty smell permeate your entire area, even with windows closed. It’s weird how it comes in waves- I guess they release their toxins in gusts. If you drive down the block it looks like a horror story. Oddly, the reason this came to mind today is wondering why the air quality in my area says “very unhealthy” then I though- oh yeah- that refinery.

Great place to work with hard-working and smart people at the Refinery. Over the past years the refinery has taken many steps to improve overall safety and environmental impact. All the people complaining - you should ask your developer why they decided to build houses and businesses around the refinery!? The refinery has been here way longer than any surrounding communities or businesses. Don't complain now.The gasoline products made this refinery is sold at Mobil Gas Stations, I only fill up from Mobil as their products are great and my car runs very smooth and no accumulation of carbon build-up!

What you are referring to is a the refinery's Flare System. A flare is an integral part of the safe operation of the refinery.
