The station is friendly inside. The steps going down to the street on Van Nuys Blvd. sometimes has encampments on them. The parking lot has pot holes and some holes that one might trip into. Do watch your step. A platform has been being built for over a year. There is construction equipment all about including loose gravel. Again watch your step. See photos. Recent update. Well there has been a long going construction. Due to Covid-19 I haven't been there to much. The last time I was there I saw that a dormitory had been built for the Homeless in part of the parking lot. This required a lot of electrical and water to be brought from the street. 8-14-2020. It is amazing to see progress through time. It would be great if there was a cover built over the walk way to protect one from the elements.

Pleasantly surprised with the quality of service I received at the Van Nuys station, the lady at the counter was cheerful and answered all my questions. Station is clean and well-maintained, has a couple water fountains too which is a huge help for refilling bottles. My Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train was right on schedule, smooth experience overall!

I was so impressed with this Amtrak station! The woman at the counter was working there alone, but gave such friendly and detailed help to all of us at the station, taking time to go over our trips with each of us. Her instructions were clear and thoughtful and I was moved by the care and kindness she showed my grandmother, who has mild dementia. Travel can be stressful, but her upbeat spirit and calm guidance started our trip off smooth. The station was also very clean, and while small, was a comfortable place to wait for our train.

A very large parking lot where train passengers can leave their car at no additional cost. Inside the station, the customer service agents are extremely courteous and helpful to answer any questions you might have and help you make the right route choice for your particular trip. There have free coffee available, restrooms and a few automated ticket machines. I had a very nice experience and very much like the serviced provided and quality of friendly staff.

That would be a question for Amtrak, there is no security over night.
Parking is free here
It would be hit and miss as to whether you'd be able to have a cab waiting there. Personally, I'd use one of the app-based rideshares and call it when they announce that you're approaching Van Nuys.
You don't need a reservation but you'll want to buy a ticket before boarding if you dont want to pay twice as much. You can find all the scheduling info at Amtrak.com or their mobile app.
Yes!!!
You can get to the station either by a local Metro transit bus, by the Orange Line bus or by foot. Some nearby transit routes include the 233, 237, 154, 744, 788 and the Van Nuys / Panorama City Dash.

72 hours unless otherwise marked. Some restrictions do exist. Some areas are no parking from 2 am to 6 am.....other areas are under 7 feet tall and under 22 feet for overnight parking.....parking signs telling g parking limits and times are posted IF....no signs prevent parking a 72 (3days) is the usual parking limit... Read the parking signs....
There is the Ventura Metro Line which would drop you in Van Nuys. Check Metro.org for train times.
Probably about 10 hours on the Coast Starlight. Beautiful ride!
The above information is what I would have suggested as well.
Yes I’m sure you can still buy or reserve tickets at the station itself. I’m just guessing tho, since i always get it online but my Das just got bought inside the station in Emryville, CA (near Oakland), so I’m sure it’s the same at every station that has a kiosk/cashier person.
