Always enjoyed coming here before changing to the smokehouse, so thought we would give it a try. Didn't care much for the ultra self service, especially considering how not busy it was and seeing the employees just hanging around the order station waiting for things to do. With a little bit of table service, I would have had at least one more beer, probably two. I ordered the brisket, with Mac & cheese and southern black beans as the sides. Portion sizes were good, flavor of everything was great. My wife wishes rolls or biscuits of some kind would have been included, like all other bbq joints we’ve been to. The real bummer was the cut on the brisket. It was sliced with the grain, so was tough and stringy, and difficult to cut even with a knife. Seeing pictures of other posts that wasn’t the case, so maybe just a bad night for us.

What a wonderful hidden gem on Orcas! Matt hand smokes the delicious brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and ribs fresh each day, served with a choice of four original sauces made in-house. The comforting side dishes-- macaroni and cheese, collards, black beans, loaded fries, are also house made. Add cold beers, tasty beverages from the full bar, and a great selection of local wines and you're in for a treat. It only gets better as you spill out onto the deck overlooking Deer Harbor, or onto the beautiful grassy area complete with picnic tables, corn hole, ping pong, badminton, and soulful music. It's a place to settle in, let the kids and dog play while you enjoy a truly delicious meal. More than generous portions, friendly staff. It doesn't get better than this.

This place is a gem. The ambiance here is laid back and relaxing. The brisket was cooked to perfection. I was also impressed with the baked beans and broccoli. It's rare for me to like everything that comes out on the plate. It's a little more self service than I'm used to but they make up for it in flavor. You can even play Cornhole if you'd like. I'm definitely coming back.

Five of us went to Matthews Smokehouse and all had a great meal and a great time. We tried the baby back ribs and they were fabulous, the brisket was good as well. Although they have lots of seating inside, they also have an acre of grassy area around the restaurant with tables widely spaced about to eat alfresco, they also have a ping pong table and corn hole area that are free to use. Other than the food being really good, this would be a nice spot to take children.

We were there several times over the last week between order and pickups. Everyone was masked. Customers waited outside so only a couple customers were inside. Good practices are in place a Matt's.
