Beautiful canyon with plenty of hiking and photo opportunities. Most picnic areas in the canyon don't include water, so you will need to bring your own. The family loved it!

Had a great time walking to all the waterfalls along the way. Worth the time to drive the whole road. Did not take us as long as we thought it would. The waterfalls all had water even though it was a bit of drought in the area. Got great photos from the road as well as on the trails. Were visited by deer on the path at Spearfish Falls at Savoy.

I like walkable places. Spearfish strikes me as a gorgeous place that could have become too rich and successful to accommodate a traveler like me who has not very much money to spend. This feels to me like a good place for walking around. Or riding your bicycle. Or driving along the creek through the canyon. So if you've only got an hour or two (or a day or a week) to visit the Black Hills of South Dakota, you might consider Spearfish as a destination.
