Today marks our 1-year anniversary with Define Dance. We abruptly left our previous studio right before the competitive season was about to begin due to some major drama that could not be reconciled. It was a difficult time for me and my daughter due to the severity of the verbal abuse that was incurred from the other parents at our previous studio. When we came to Define, we were immediately welcomed with open arms. The owners knew what we were going through, even though we shared very little of our story. Apparently what we had been through is very common amongst other studios. Even though they had already had tryouts for their upcoming season, they willingly allowed my daughter to join the competitive team with no questions asked. The thing I love most is that this studio is DRAMA FREE...like literally, none! They pride themselves on maintaining a happy, healthy, supportive environment for kids and parents. From day one, the other dancers were so nice to my daughter and helped show her around. Even the older/advanced girls were befriending my 8 year old and trying to make her feel comfortable. I swore to myself that I was not going to engage with the other parents because I didn’t want to repeat our previous problems, but the other moms were proactive in reaching out to me and inviting me and my daughter to do things with them. It felt like we had been here for years. I am so thankful to the staff, parents, and dancers for being so accepting of us, especially when we were so broken. It’s so reassuring to know that despite the hardships we endured, there are still good people in this industry that truly care about teaching kids the right things.The teachers are all super amazing, not only in their approach, but their technique is spot on, they provide a well organized progression of skills, and a wide range of classes. They are more focused on teaching skills the correct way with proper execution than showing flashy tricks and shaking butts on stage. Define has a saying on their wall, “de•fine/dance space, noun, a place and/or group of people that builds strong character, confidence, and integrity within individual dancers. In defining dance, we are defining lives.” Truth be told, this isn’t just a saying, it’s their mission statement and they show it everyday 💜
