I went as my friend's shooting buddy which is required by the range. For security purposes, I had to read/agree to a variety of statements/questions before being 'buddy approved', then they covered all rules and security practices with me and provided me with sound muffling earphones. The environment felt safe, secure, and comfortable to me, and the people who worked there were super friendly and helpful. They rent firearms, sell ammo, and everything you'd need for a good experience at the range. Prices were reasonable. When I go back - and I definitely will - I'll be needing my own buddy.

What I like best about this place is the variety of guns I can rent here. If I'm looking into buying a gun, I always make sure to test the type of gun first before making a purchase. I'm able to do that here.

I had a fantastic first-time experience at Iron Sights. Natalie, William, and Chris are top-notch! I will be coming back when I'm in town.

Range: exactly what you need to train, practical arrangement. Employees: they’re all rad, helpful and get you taken care of quickly. Meg is meg-a cool. 😂 I don’t rent, but they have tons of weapons on hand to try out, a more expansive collection than other ranges I’ve been to. All in all, don’t go elsewhere in San Diego where people with egos will harsh your experience, come shoot here where you’ll feel welcome.

Avoid all of the problem. Unholstering isn't a always necessary and the superior court offers safe and reasonable response.
Cristoval, Cory's answer is correct (thank you Cory), you are welcome to bring your own firearms and ammunition. We do have 3 ammunition requirements, specifically, no Wolf ammunition, no ammunition with steel in the jacket core or case, and for .223/5.56 it must be 55 grain projectiles or heavier. We also have an upper limit on rifle calibers which are no belted magnums and no rounds faster than 3200 fps. Thank you, Chris Harrington General Manager
Jordan, We just received all the petition sheets and the instructions for correctly filling it out this afternoon. We should have them out for signing tomorrow morning (Sunday 10-20-2019) when we open. Please do keep in mind that these are for San Diego County only. Thank you, Chris Harrngton
Divad, That is correct, if you come by yourself and do not bring a firearm, you will not be able to rent one. If you do not have a firearm to bring, then you can come with another person in which case you will be able to rent. This is required of us by our insurance company because it makes the range safer. Thank you, Chris Harrington
Ysaiela, It depends on what guns you rent, how many, and especially how much ammunition you buy. We typically see people spend $35-45 per person as a reasonable average. You can spend less if you shoot .22's, and if you go crazy with the ammunition it can be significantly more. Thank you, Chris Harrington
Thank you for the question. As Mr. Parr indicated, if you come by yourself you must bring a firearm with you regardless of whether you plan to rent or not. If you don't own a firearm or don't have one with you, you must be with another person (who does not need to have a firearm). So the rule is: "With a firearm or with a friend" to use the range. Thank you, Chris Harrington General Manager
Pretty much everything just make sure they are in compliance with state laws and you do not have any penetrater ammo I.E. 5.56 green tip no steel core ammo etc. also ammo cannot be steel casing only thing allowed is brass.
Hello, You are welcome to shoot slugs here as long as they are lead or an lead alloy. No steel or exotic materials. We also do not allow Wolf brand ammunition. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you here. Chris Harrington
Yes
No, anyone can go and they only background check if you leave with the ammo.
Bob, Thank you for the question. We have ammunition for *most*calibers for use on the range. We are not currently selling any ammunition to take away. The exception to the take away rule is if you purchase a new firearm from us we will send you home with ammunition at the time you pick up the firearm from the DROS. Thanks again, Chris Harrington
No just fill out the online form to make the check in faster
Mr. Hobbs, We do not have any available. We are getting them in regularly, but they are all being sold to people on the waitlist for that firearm. Thank you, Chris
David, The County mandates face coverings so we ask everyone to do so. All employees are wearing face coverings. We control the line out front asking everyone to keep 6 feet between groups. We limit the number of people in the lobby. We have a maximum of 2 people per lane. We sanitize everything in sight every few minutes or when someone has used it. We have hand sanitizer stations set up all over the lobby. Thank you, Chris
Jan, Thank you for the question. Yes you can shoot a 30-30 rifle at our range. If you need it we also stock 30-30 ammunition although you can certainly bring your own. Thanks again, Chris Harrington
Yes on both
Tucker, We do have a Sig P238 as a rental. It's $6 for the rental, $18 for 50 rounds of .380acp and $14 to rent the lane (1 shooter, $8 for an additional shooter). Please keep in mind that if you come in by yourself to use the range you must bring a firearm with you, regardless of whether you plan to rent. If you do not have a firearm with you, the alternative would be to come in with another person (who does *not* have to have a firearm). Thank you, Chris Harrington GM
Sir, As their step-father you are welcome to bring them shooting and fill out the liability form for them. Thank you and please let me know if I can answer any other questions, Chris Harrington
Katie, Do you know exactly what caliber the rifle your husband purchased is? We may be able to help source the correct non-corrosive ammunition. As a side note, older military ammunition has primers that contain a chemical that, when burned, leave several byproducts one of which is a type of salt. The salt stays inside the barrel and any moisture in the air mixes with the salt causing rust to start. If you can find non-corrosive ammunition that is the best solution, but if that's not available, you can safely shoot corrosive ammunition provided you *immediately* clean the firearm after shooting. If you can let me know the caliber I would be happy to help find non-corrosive ammunition for you. Thank you, Chris Harrington
On the website, it says the minimum age is 10. So, go crazy on Tuesday.
Ysaiela, Thank you for the question. The range policy is that minors need to be a minimum of 10 years old *and* they need to be with an actual parent or grandparent, they cannot come to the range with just any adult. Chris Harrington General Manager Iron Sights Shooting Range
Bill, Yes we do. As of today (11-03-2018) we currently have it priced at $919.99 plus tax and DROS. I will hold that price for at least 30 days. I do not currently have any in stock, but I can have one in the store in 2-3 business days. Thank you, Chris Harrington
Skip, Thank you for the question. If you are referring to shipping a firearm in to us, then unfortunately we do not offer that as a service and would not be able to receive it for you. As for a recommendation for a shop that does do FFL transfers, you could try North County Firearms in San Marcos, Duncan's Gun Works in San Marcos, or Gunther Guns in Carlsbad. If you are referring to a private party transfer then the base fee is $35. The only additional fees would be if the buyer needed to get a Firearm Safety Card ($25) or needed a California approved lock ($5 plus tax). Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. Thank you again, Chris Harrington
Justin, Thank you for the question. Yes you can shoot any gauge of slugs here. Please do keep in mind that we do not allow any Wolf Brand ammunition, or anything with steel in it. Lead or copper slugs will be fine. Thank you, Chris Harrington
Marcelo, Thank you for the question. Mr. Guardado's answer is correct, but I will expand upon it a little. You must be 21 or older to purchase a handgun, or 18 or older to purchase a rifle or shotgun. You must have a unexpired California drivers license or ID, and that drivers license or ID CANNOT say "federal limits apply" in the upper right hand corner. Alternatively, you must be active duty military with orders stationing you in California. You must have a Firearm Safety Certificate (or an exemption like active duty military or law enforcement). You can take the 30 question multiple choice test at any gun store (we can do it here) and it costs $25. You must have a proof of residency like a current vehicle registration or utility bill. There is a 10 day wait on all firearm purchases during which the state of California does a back ground check. Thank you Chris Harrington
I'm not so sure on the prices or if they have a membership plan. I do know they offer discounts to military/veteran/first-responders type people. As for avoiding crowds, Monday-Friday, from the time they open to around 12-1 it's pretty good. Sometimes I've had the whole rifle range to myself. The earlier you go the more lonely the range will be. As for the weekend I have no experience with that as I have yet to go on a weekend.
They do not have the MP5 unfortunately. But they do rent out AR's and AK's, Shotguns, 308 rifles like a Springfield, and they have a wide variety of pistols as well. Basically, lots of stuff to choose from.
They have tons of guns for rent. Prices vary based on ammo and type of gun. I would call ahead for prices
Call them, their hours vary and are only early from what I understand.
I don't think aluminum is a problem. They do not allow any wolf brand ammo. Also they check your ammomfor steel with a magnet when you check in.
They are typically open on Sundays.
They have a large selection of pistols. They also have commonly used rifles like an AR15, AK, 308 rifles, and shotguns.
r
They utilize the buddy system for renting firearms. If you own and bring your own then no buddy required for those you bring. To rent you must have another shooter with you, photo id and of course money to pay. For anything more specific feel free to call.
