The DNA test itself is performed by a company of the individual’s choosing or is court-ordered by a judge in paternity cases. The costs for the tests are set by the company and they usually require payment in advance. The company then sends the collection kit to York General and will schedule a time for the parties involved to present for specimen collection. The laboratory at York General performs the specimen collection under chain-of-custody protocols and ships the collected samples to the testing facility. York General is reimbursed by the paternity testing company for the costs of the collection. York General does not endorse any particular DNA testing company, but we will work with most paternity testing companies. Companies that York General commonly works with are DNA Diagnostics Center and Genetic Profiles Corporation. Each company charges roughly $400 for parentage testing.
