Maplewood at Newtown

I've been taking my Brain & Body Balance Fitness program to Maplewood at Newtown once a month since January and I am so impressed with staff, facility, and residents! It's like walking into a spa resort, and everyone is smiling. There are multiple lounges and common areas, the dining areas are lovely (and I'm told by one of the gentleman that they get to order anything they want), there is a chic salon, a beautiful outdoor area (which we will be using when the weather is consistently lovely) and lots of other amenities and programs. Currently there is a five (or six?) week series called "Art of Changing the Brain: Healthy Brain & Power of Choice" with Dr. Kristen Betts happening. Brain function is my jam, so I've been over as a guest to listen to Dr. Betts work (it's wonderful) and there are 50+ residents attending and participating with vigor. Probably most importantly, are the staff. They are kind. It's not an act, nobody is on their best behavior when I'm there, this staff is, as far as I can see, full of very warm humans who really care about not only the residents but each other. It's such a positive environment. A final note, which as someone who both provides programs for seniors and has seen several of my senior family members through their later years: there is no smell. Neither antiseptic, nor flowery and fake, nor human. The only thing I've ever smelled is delicious food at lunch time. Maplewood at Newtown is just a nice place to be.

I am a resident of Maplewood at Newtown for the past six months and so pleased I made the choice to be here. Before moving here, I had to dispose of my home and being 89years old, it was not an easy time. I was quite apprehensive of what the ' Senior Living' experience would be and found out very soon, I had become a member of caring and loving "family." Within a day or two, I was greeted by first name by everyone and introduced to my table mates. We have become friends and enjoy conversations about everything. We are served delicious, healthy and local food with several choices at each meal and the table is beautifully set with crisp tablecloth, napkins and glassware. The activities are so varied and stimulating and you can be as busy as you want to be. The Library has an amazing amount of books of all kinds of interests- so well stocked. The Fitness Center is well used. There is a Wellness Center with licensed professionals and nurses available for 24 hours a day to take care of the needs of all. The grounds are beautiful and so natural with gardens and birds everywhere. Courtyards and patios are so inviting and popular with all. I am especially happy with the ability to have my car here to come and go as I please and above all, the security and safety we have. Peace of mind is so important. I have mentioned just a few of the many things I love about Maplewood. There is so much more. I also want to say my husband is a patient at Maplewood of Bethel, a mile away from me. He has dementia and is receiving the best care from the nurses and professionals I could no longer give. This care eases my mind so much and is another reason I give Maplewood 5 stars! This place was chosen by our children 6 years ago. They wanted us to be in a safe, clean environment. We like the facility with all the caring staff. Each department has exceptional workers. Residents feel that everyone likes and treats us with respect. We are happy here with many friends-both residents and staff.

Everyone wants to stay in their house, but this was the next best thing. I have made good friends at my table. I like seeing the young people-how nice they are, how they speak to them and how they treat them. I've been very lucky. Everyone here is so good with the residents. They always get their level, and strive to make our residents comfortable. They are very patient especially in our dining room. They take everything in and make it work.
