We visited the reserve on Tuesday July 19, 2022. We really wanted to see the waterfalls, but since it was hot, the rivers dried up and there were no waterfalls. But they walked along the trails. The trails are steep and winding, we liked it.

The Plotter Kill preserve is a nice wildlife area, not too far off the beaten from Albany. A comfortable walk to view the waterfalls and help you relax in peace and quiet.

A bit slick with mud in some parts, otherwise a fairly mild terrain with some wonderful viewing areas of the falls, even some spots to cross the water.

The outer trail was a bit muddy and seems like parts of it stay that way for most of the warm season, so wear boots and take a picture of the map like they recommend. We had to reference it a few times. No trash and the trails were marked well.

So there are some small rapids and pools on the lower half if you are desperate though they are really contingent on flow and tend to be a longer hike to get to. The pools under the falls are not deep enough trust me I tried.

Use the mariaville entrance or the shortest path to the best waterfalls. However it is based on the time of year, and Springtime usually has the best views.
