This is a beautiful property. The location and views are epic. It is a quiet and relaxing experience overall. The trails (visited in summer) are well maintained and marked, and suitable for walking, hiking, and biking. You will feel taken away from all of your troubles and stress here. They really invest in everything to make it a great vacation or getaway or whatever you are looking for. That said, a few things I want to point out- as we are frequent travelers. I am sure there are reasons for everything, but for the price to stay, there are some expectations. - Breakfast was underwhelming. We expected a full menu, but all that was available was a self-serve buffet. It was not that great either- the selection was limited. Add to that, we had to eat inside, when the weather was good for the patio service. In COVID times this is a minus. - Our room, which was a suite, had several lights that were not working. Though it was clean overall, there were some details we noticed that could be better cleaned. - Unfortunately, there was an employee smoking cigarettes below our room's porch. That is unacceptable. Most everything else was great. The staff was helpful, the room was comfortable, the dinner experience on the patio was exceptional. I would recommend staying here.

My husband booked a weekend get away for my birthday over here since the sound of music has been my favorite childhood movie. It was so thoughtful of him. It was a great experience for the most part because the views are stunning. The suite he booked wasn’t what we were expecting as we are used to staying at 5-star hotels that are mostly on the more modern, luxurious and clean side when entering the lobby and our first impression of the lodge inside was a bit underwhelming. The views from our balcony were serene and calming however the rooms were quite outdated. I understand that the theme is from that era and it really does feel like you’re in the 60’s and 70’s however a little bit can be upgraded/modified. The lobby definitely needs a face lift as the first impression can be underwhelming. I enjoyed the buffet breakfast but my hubby did not. The breakfast hall definitely needs a revamp for sure. We still enjoyed ourselves thoroughly because we stepped outside of the lodge and explored the surrounding areas and neighboring towns in Stowe. The sound of music/Maria Von Trapp history and tour was nice (quite informative). We met Sam Von Trapp (Maria’s grandson) once the documentary ended which was nice. The lodge is very pretty from the outside with scenic views however some tweaking is necessary. The elevators have a strong odor and so do the carpets - with the rates being charged I am sure they can afford to renovate parts of it every year - it’s quite pricey to stay at a suite here so upgrades are necessary in my opinion. We went to the coffee house one morning, which was nice and also made a stop for lunch at their beer brewery which was great. I like their gift shop it has some cute stuff. All in all our experience in Stowe was excellent because we enjoyed our stay in Vermont and I am forever grateful to my husband for planning everything so meticulously.

I've been coming here for the past 15 years with family, and have always stayed in the guest houses. It has been an absolutely amazing experience to come here every year. Plenty of hiking trails in the area, events to see in the lodge, animals like cows and sheep around to enjoy, etc. The history of the area is cool to look into originally with the Von Trapps.

Not sure. I would call directly and ask.

Blush Hill golf course in Waterbury.
Call our reservation dept. at 802-253-7000 x 1 and they can assist with any questions. Thanks!
Hi Cida -- breakfast isn't included unless you're staying with a specific package that has breakfast bundled into the rate. They can simply charge breakfast to your room when you're staying with us. Thanks for checking!
There lodge is indeed pet friendly. https://www.trappfamily.com/petfriendly-lodging.htm
The hot tub, and the indoor pool, are open! The outdoor pool is being resurfaced and refinished, and we're expecting it to be done and reopen by the end of July.
The Trapp family brewery down the hill is amazing. If you like craft beer you may need to stay the night. 😁
Hi Cathy, thanks for your question. We're looking forward to welcoming you! For Guest House visitors there are additional costs for some activities such as tours or classes on property, but there are other activities that are complimentary to guests. Check out our website for a full list of activities and their associated costs. To answer your second question, you will not need to purchase a trail pass, as that's included. You're welcome to bring your own bikes, and we also have rentals available at the Outdoor Center (daily and weekly). Hope this helps!
No
Not sure about the meat but 100% sure about the beer
Depends on the unit and the section of housing some ..but yes they are allowed on grounds
Burlington Intl (BTV). Less than an hour's drive from there. Driving from Midwest is an option too, a very scenic ride through upstate NY if you have time. We drive back/forth to Indianapolis regularly, takes 15 hours in winter; bit less in summer.
Just don't plan on bringing any pets there. They don't allow dogs on their trails
3 pm check. You can always ask to see if its possible for an earlier check-in if you have a reservation already.
Was able to access a cabin earlier than 5pm (2pm)... but the listed time was 5pm.
Yes, we have eaten at the new Brewery. It is fantastic. There is also another new microbrew in town which is extremely popular. Be prepared to stand in line to get into this one. But they don't have a nice restaurant like Trapp family does. We have a timeshare in one of the guest houses which we purchased in the mid-80s. We have been going there almost every year since. The place is great. We actually would like to sell our timeshare because we don't ski anymore. Anyone who is interested in buying our timeshare should contact me.
