Calling a grieving family the day of the funeral to say it is cancelled is the height of cruelty. God loves all his children. God will welcome Julion into heaven with open arms like he does with all of his children. Even if he is Gay it doesn't matter to our Loving God. God still loves him as he is. My deepest sympathy to Julian's husband Kendall Capers and to his mother Julie Atwood! May your husband and son be at peace and pain free! In the middle of the wake/memorial pure hatred and disrespect to Julian and his family, Pastor Jenkins calls and cancels the service for the next morning. Total "disrespect, non compassionate" towards the dead. Pure hatred, lack of human compassion and grace. What happened to Thou shalt not judge. Pastor Jenkins is Satan because clearly he is not a man of God to do such a thing. Lead by example....show them the way. Do not use God/Jesus as your reason for hatred. Not once in the Bible does it say to deny a family a service in the church for their loved one because the deceased was gay. Because bigoted assholes in your congregation brought it to your attention, you are hiding behind God. Your church, New Hope Baptist Church, you the mighty Pastor Jenkins's and Congregation should be sued. On July 22, 2014 President Obama added sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of protections, prevent discrimination against federal workers based on race, religion, gender, nationality, age or disability. Sue all 3 of them and set up a scholarship in his name. I would give 0 stars but it wouldn't let you post.

It is neither Christ-centered nor biblically-based, to cancel a funeral the day before, just because you found out the deceased was gay. Love thy neighbor. Judge not, that you not be judged. You are justifiably being judged, now. I hope this experience strengthens your courage, Dr. Jenkins. You congregants need your leadership in order to learn the Way of Jesus. Help them (and yourself?) get over your bigotry.

Aw, geez, pastor, why'd you have to go and refuse to have the funeral? I bet you've held funerals for other people whose "sin" you didn't know about and "don't support." Perhaps an adulterer, or a thief, or a liar, and on and on and on. You know "We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God." Personally, I'm not "comfortable" with the gay lifestyle, but I try to treat everyone with love and kindness. After all, judgement is God's area, not mine. And one of my favorite coworkers is gay and enjoys performing in drag (at his other job). I adore him because of who is he inside. I believe that's how God would want me to behave. You know what you have to do now? According to the Bible, you need to repent and made amends.

LOATHESOME congregation. LOVE is NOT present in this congregation. Any gathering of people who can wait until the DAY before a funeral and then choose to cancel the ceremony are COMPLETELY and UTTERLY LACKING IN COMPASSION AND HUMAN UNDERSTANDING Most people are seeking a place of Love and Compassion...if you are one of these lovely kinds of people and looking for a church that represents Jesus in the way he would have wanted, THIS is not your church. Jesus, i guarantee you, is ASHAMED of this collection of angry, vengeful and hateful people. They are, however, NOT entirely without possibility as ANYONE can come to understand the error of their ways. If you give them the benefit of the doubt, you are indeed a person Jesus would honor, IMHO, and you deserve to evaluate this group for yourself. Just keep in mind the acts of which they have proven capable.
