This is a place out of the past. A typical neighborhood get together. With very good food drinks and a homey atmosphere. The service is relaxed, but very friendly. Every customer orders and pays for everything at the bar counter. Then it gets delivered in cardboard containers. That is understandable, so they can keep the prices low. It doesn't detract from the very good quality of the food. People can sit over beer and talk as long as they want. With the larger seating, no one needs to be in a hurry. You can write the tip on the charge slip. I think cash tips are put in a jar on the counter. I saw no money laying on tables. There is also outdoor seating, both downstairs and upstairs on a deck with umbrellas. A large room upstairs, can be rented for private parties. On a side note. The downstairs patio, could be screened off from the parking lot, with see through lactic and plants. It would really be twice as nice. My friends and I will come there as often as we can. Even though it is a good distance from where we live. Being from Vienna, it makes me feel a little like home. Typically this district in Louisville is called Schnitzelburg. .

Check's has been a great neighborhood bar and eatery since I was young in the 1970s. The bean soup and chili are great to warm up on a cool morning. As you get into summer a cold beer or coke on the patio with finger food like fish tacos or the made on site sandwiches are the correct call.

I've heard this is one of the great Locals places, and no joke. This is a must stop at place. You can tell from the moment you walk in that this has been a family favorite for generations. You can tell by the quirks of ordering and serving that you had best adapt to their ways, or you won't be served! Had the fried catfish, and wow. Light, crispy crust, flaky fish on the inside. Killer onion rings too.

German vibe local restaurant to visit. Fried fish and chilli were so yummy. Plentiful of bourbon as well
