Great experience. The food is definitely the best of all the Oaxacan restaurants I've tried here in Los Angeles. They also have a good variety of mezcal. Must try: Chapulines Ostiones Quesillo Chorizo Chicharon Molcajete Plates to order: Palladia Oaxacan molcajete

This was a complete disappointment. We ordered tons of food from different parts of the menu. The only thing worthy was the mole tamal and the Mexican craft beer. The rest was small portions with no sense between each sides. The barbacoa was like a small spoon of sauce meat with non well grilled peppers. The tortillas were not handmade and were old and solid dry. The two stars is because of their service, which was really good.

I'm a person who is in love with Oaxaca, its food and its wonderful hardworking people. Very excited we got to eat at Madre! Drinks: we got the Paloma spritz, which had tequila, mezcal and some citrus. It wasn't sweet at all and you could really taste the smokiness of the mezcal in it. Even though it had 2 liquors, it was well balanced and the alcohol didn't overpowered. We also had the Al Chile! Cocktail. I loved the pineapple taste with the smokiness of the mezcal. I'd you've ever had grilled pineapple, then you know what I'm talking about. Food: the taste of Oaxaca- it was good, I'd say the meats were pretty good, especially the chorizo and the cecina. Not so sure about el Tasajo. It was a bit rough. Pozole -very rich soup with lots of chicken, I usually prefer it with pork but this version was still pretty good. It came with all the fixings separately, which is great. Perfect hominy. Churros - crispy in the outside and a little soft in the inside. Really yummy with the semi condensed sweet milk and the one strawberry. José was our server and he was nice, quick and friendly. Great ambiance/music, a little loud but still felt intimate.

It's meat heavy but the food is really delicious. The staff is really friendly. One of the waiters is from Oaxaca and it was great chatting with him about Oaxaca. They have an insanely good mezcal selection. I think the prices are really good. Their tortillas are delicious. Really nice vibe inside. They asked us for vaccination before entering but never checked our ID's which was curious. Inside not much is enforced - you can walk around without a mask but the staff all wear masks. i don't stand one way or another on the masking and vaccination thing but if you're going to do it probably better to do it for real and not just for show. The place is pretty clean but a bit cramped. it's not necessarily cozy and the inside is a little loud. We had a nice chat with some people next to us so it's a friendly place.

They don't take reservations at the Culver City location.
Oh, that's not good! Maybe something happened inside? It's a great restaurant. Try them again.
I didn't see "Chiles en Nogada" on the menu. As an authentic Oaxacan Restaurant that this is, I'm sure its a seasonal dish that isn't on menu year- round. I will ask next time I'm there.
