El real BAD taco; I've stopped here a couple times thru the years. My real test for a Mexican restaurant is the lengua (toung). It used to be real good, tender, juicy and a little spice. Something happened to this place. It's like they don't care anymore. The lengua has been really dry and chewy, like leftovers that sat out from the day before. Called to ask about it and whoever the lady was that answered the phone was very rude and wouldn't honor a replacement. Customer service was never really that great but the food made up for it. I will not be back nor will I recommend El real BAD tacos.

Thursday, July 8th, 2021 at 9:03 PM The Elowen Room Princeton Illinois A cool night finds us on the prairie. I think of the coolness of night hunting me and finding me. The coolness taunts me. The coolness makes it almost uncomfortable to sit outside in a short-sleeved tee-shirt. Plus, I feel a light breeze on my right cheek, my right forearm. As long as I don't shiver, I'm going to persist in my writing, sitting on a bench on the sidewalk. I once thought I needed a million dollars. Now I know all I need is a bench for sitting. I hate that this realization makes me ready for retirement. But I'm not ready to retire. A modest Mexican restaurant in Spring Valley has become a favorite. I stopped for a late afternoon lunch of tacos, cheaper than Taco Bell. Cheaper than Taco Bell and much, much more delicious. It's called El Real Taco, a little too masculine a business name. I watched an entire episode of Pawn Stars while enjoying lunch. I verified that the corn chips fried up in corn oil weren't fried up in lard. My body can't handle lard. The big bowl of salsa tempted me to dip corn chips again and again, fresh salsa made in back with cilantro and onions and more chopped in back. The wait person binged watched Pawn Stars while waiting on table. A sign outside advertised for more help. Noticing my absorption in the show, the wait person added, "Isn't this show great? And Spring Valley is such a great town for antiques. I'm still learning how to validate antiques." An expert evaluated the autographs of the Eagles on the slip cover of a pressed advanced copy of the Hotel California album. The expert compared the slip cover signatures against examples known to be authentic. The expert affirmed the authenticity of the signatures and said good to go. I loved learning how to verify signatures. Why didn't I get to watch Pawn Stars in high school? I'm in my sixth decade finally learning what I needed to learn. I just looked up the facts of Hotel California, released in 1976. The musicians were out, making the rounds of disc jockeys, pushing their album. Thirty six years ago, when I was fourteen years old, lighting church taper candles as an acolyte, the five were out, handing out vinyl. I just reread the lyrics although I have the lines memorized. It's a great karaoke song. How nice to enjoy a lunch of tacos and learn how simple was the music business back then.
