Love Ruby's Retreat! It's a calling what she and her volunteers do. And I met Taterπ

I imagine some have a good experience with Rubyβs. Unfortunately, my experience was not one of them. I completed my application and had several friends who sent in their references. It took a long time to get any kind of a response back, and that was only through email. Fortunately, I found a beautiful puppy somewhere else!

Saw a dog on Petfinder I was really interested in, so excited, sent a question to the rescue 9 days ago thru Petfinder, still no reply. I filled out an application, got 2 great references to email the rescue as requested by the rescue owner, and I also emailed a separate email from the application with more details about myself. Heard nothing. 2 days later I decided to email the rescue again to see if my application was looked at as I am really eager to adopt this dog, I was very interested. I got a reply from the owner of the rescue that the rescue is very busy finding homes for dogs that are in kennels and the priority is to them, not the dog I inquired about who lives with the person who adopted him but its not working out. I thanked her for the info and waited. One week later, I emailed again. I wrote a super nice letter because I could tell the owner seemed a bit agitated that I email her 2 days after I sent my application. I kindly suggested if she were very busy helping dogs to get someone to help with applications (I saw on Facebook from 8 weeks prior that several other people sent applications and haven't heard back either and was told by the owner to send an email for updates, which is exactly what I did) such as a volunteer or the current owner and she could have the final say of where this dog should be placed. Her reply to me was "they don't personally know the dog or know what's best for him" (apparently the current owner doesn't know the dog?). Also said she's doing the best she can, she's only one person (which is why she should let other people help), then she said "I will pull up your app right now to see if it even looks potentially like a good fit". Then I got an email 2 minutes later "Okay, easy enough and I am sorry you've been waiting.(condescending much?) I know his current mom would not want him going to ____,(now the owner knows her dog?) nor would we, in case he doesn't work out his new home home (so he's not really up for adoption?). His apps have been put on the back burner (but you posted him on Petfinder to find him a home?) since he is in a home and space is tight here at the shelter--plus we are more concerned about getting them in to homes because they are sitting in a shelter. Again, I am sorry you've been waiting." That was not really the reason, just the excuse. I replied back "The email I sent says I am moving in 2-3 months, out of _____. I don't even want to be here. But thanks for looking at the application." No response back, she made up her mind. She didn't bother to look at the application, only got as far as my address and that I lived in another state (it doesn't say on Petfinder or Facebook that they are not letting dogs get adopted out of state). She didn't see that I had 36years experience with this breed, had them all my adult life. She didn't see how I rescued and nursed dogs that I've gotten out of bad situations. She didn't see my 2 references that she wanted before even looking at applications. She didn't bother to see anything that showed how I was a great prospect for adopting this dog and knew these dogs. She says on Facebook that if they can't find a home for a dog quickly, the dog gets posted on Petfinder. Well here I am, and there seems to be several others ready also. She don't seem care that this dog is uncomfortable in his home (at not fault of the owner) or she'd be eager to place him by now, its been 2 months of people saying they put in applications. If she doesn't want people inquiring about the dogs she puts up for adoption, or doesn't have the time or doesn't want someone else helping her, she shouldn't put them on Petfinder. As I see her getting more dogs and puppies from shelters I'm not sure she really feels overwhelmed at all. I'm not writing this because I'm mad I wasn't chosen, it was the process and the way the owner acts towards a person if they contact her because they're interested in adopting. She put the dog on Petfinder, she needs to be able to handle it. I'm not even sure if the dog is really up for adoption.

Staff is rude and the owner was unpleasant to email with. I sent a nice email stating what type of dog I am looking for (not picky AT ALL) and asking about applications or appointments and telling her I was excited to get a dog. She Emailed back one sentence simply saying they have no dogs for me. even though she posts so many every day on her Facebook page NON stop. Imagine owning a rescue and bring this rude especially to people that are ready with loving homes and spent days preparing for a dog... she could have at least told me she would look. Told me to fill out an app. Etc. but NOPE.....disappointed
