This was an okay place to camp while on a road trip down the coast. The dunes themselves are lovely, and campsites were large but close together and not very private. Lots of people were walking through the campground (to the bathrooms, etc.) well after midnight shining flashlights into my site and tent. Few people seemed to respect the quiet hours, as the sounds of next-door neighbors’ laughs and screams (I feel bad saying this since they were clearly having a great time) continued into the early morning. Bathrooms were moderately clean, showers are $1 token (not quarter) operated, and drinking water available but had a bad aftertaste. Overall a mediocre campground in a beautiful setting.

Camped here a couple days. Kids enjoyed the dunes just steps from our tent. Camp is a close drive to eating and tourist locations. While it can get very windy and cold, we enjoyed this location and getting away from the bigger city. Great place for a family vacation. While there are day use spots, reserve a spot well in advance if you'll stay longer than one night.

I've been coming here to visit for many years. It's a beautiful location, with scenic trails that are very much worth the hike. You can even hear the seals barking from the campground even though they're a few miles away!

Beautiful views and very clean, the kiddos will love it here. Campsites very in size and topography, when tenting you might have to get creative in tent placement. Several restaurants, stores, and beaches nearby. Gas up before you get here, I haven’t seen one in town yet. 60’s and 70’s during the day and 50’s at night, bring extra blankets and medium weight jackets. Bring plenty of firewood, you’ll truly enjoy hanging around the fire pit. If you like local seafood, you’ll love Bodega Bay.

Go to the website reserve California and look up Sonoma coast Bodega Dunes and if they have reservations available you can book it.
Weekends and holidays you most likely will need reservations. Weekdays you may get a spot.
No. They are $35 a night on weekends, plus a $7.99 reservation fee. Slightly cheaper during the week.
Usually 2pm.... depending on how busy/who's working the booth, they may let you in a bit earlier.
No, it is dry camping
I don't think so. They don't even let dogs on the beach
You gotta book space on line.
Just horse back ridding not for camping with horses
The website will tell you exactly how long. Buy i believe 32ft max
Yes they do. It's just above the check in station at the entrance. Right next to the dump station. Free to fill up. We were just there in october.
No walk-ins due to Covid any more. Website is reservecalifornia.com Bodega Dunes Campground is listed as Sonoma Coast State Park.
I was there over Labor Day. The weather & air quality was fine. They are not accepting phone calls or drive ups. All camping must be done online & no exceptions. No overflow either. It's been closed down. Wright's Beach overflow has been made into day use. The Weeds & thorns bushes are all over the old overflow sites. The beach is not safe for wading either. Bodega Dunes has both good & bad sites. The snippet photo that reservecaliforia.com has to see the site is a joke. A lot of campers are just parking along the roads to stay overnight, especially on the waterside of the road to Bodega Head. There were 16 campers of various types parked there for free. Doran County Park is way better than the 2 state parks. Cleaner & nicer sites. But only available for week days unless you are very lucky. Hope that helps. I'd call a business over there before going to see if the air quality has changed though as last week the sky's were orange.
In the campground yes, on a leash. Some trails and beach area, no
Yes, and there is a man who lives across from the entrance who sells bags of wood for $7 a bundle.
Book online only. No walkins. Reservecalifornia.com
I was there last week and was told they are open for reservation only. I made a reservation about 4 months ago so we were fine. Watch out for poison oak its everywhere!
