In their big push to force customers to use SELF-CHECKOUT, this otherwise good Safeway Store only has very few clerks open and available to do ONE-ON-ONE SERVICE !! Standing in lines starting half-way back to the Meat Counter just isn't my idea of a friendly shopping experience. PLUS....... How many fewer Clerks are able to earn a living with this system in place ???

Has always been nice to have this Safeway in the North End, my wife and I have shopped there for over 30 years. But recently Safeway has been allowing homeless people to "hang out" near one of the entrances and they always confront us and ask for money. We've begun to feel "uneasy" when shopping there and are concerned for our safety. We've informed the staff but it still is allowed. The store outside near the "bus stop" smells like urine, and at certain times, the "west entry" is locked, and "paying" customers are forced to walk to the far entrance to get in. Paying customers should not have to "see, hear, or smell" the homeless people at the stores doorstep. Sure, it's too bad to be homeless, but there's a time and "proper" place for them.

I have had two very negative experiences at this Safeway. The first was a deli clerk that refused to cut meat for me and then cut it for an attractive woman right when I was walking away. The second was when I made a mistake and scanned the wrong card first. I asked the clerk to void the transaction. Since she couldn't figure it out she accidentally voided my Safeway club card instead and called the manager over who just ran it through on the wrong card anyway and refused to fix it when I asked. I will shop Metropolitan Market only now. They have competent staff and better produce anyways. I'm a disabled veteran and can't afford mistakes like this. I don't have an extra two hundred dollars to just lose. I will be going to small claims court

I have good and bad days shopping at this store, and this was a bad day. The lines were ridiculously long especially for the dinner hour (photo is self check). I needed to get something at the so called Customer Service counter and the staff is always clueless about how to manage a line. Also, store employees can see that the one person staffed there can't keep up with a line of up to 7-customers. Instead they walk by ignoring that additional help is needed. I worked 30-years in retail and if this was going on someone would be fired. I left and went to a different store.

Yes, go to where they sale the lottery tickets at customer service.
Very reasonable. Wear a mask and space yourself out when waiting to be rung up.
