Special place to celebrate special occasions. Went for anniversary dinner and it was awesome!!! We asked for a private area and they provided. Drove over 50 miles to go here. Food is excellent and never disapoints!!!

I would give the service tonight a one or two stars and the food three stars. A place as highly rated as Mariner's, I would expect five stars. The experience started off awkward. When waiting to be seated (as directed by hostess A), people who did not have reservations were asked to wait near the bar area (not an issue, just making a visual). We were next to be seated when hostess B came up and said to us (only us) ,"unless you're next, you need to be way up there (pointing by the bar area)". We informed her that we were her next to be seated. She then realized we were on the reservation list and sat us. Once sitting down, they informed us they were only serving the restaurant week menu (despite it being officially over the day prior), which, okay fine. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer of cheese curds. The cheese curds came out very quickly and were super good. The drinks, took a good 10 minutes. We finally after 15 minutes ordered our food. People at other tables came, sat, ordered drinks/food and received all items before we did. The waitress came back after 30 minutes (after not refilling my drink and being asked twice) to inform us there was a mix up in the kitchen regarding our order (okay, also fine.. mistakes happen). More diners came, more people were served before us. After an hour of waiting for our dinner to arrive, one of our entrees didn't come for another 10 minutes (one piece of salmon). The waitress dropped the steak knife and took 5 minutes to get a new one (and forgot ketchup for fries, twice). When she came back 10 minutes later to ask how the food was, we informed her the steak that was asked to be cooked medium rare, was cooked well done (no pink). She said she'd take it back and have it remade. Now, at this point, we've been sitting here for over an hour. All the other tables with the same number of people have come and went. After another 10 minutes, the steak came back, even more cooked than the first one. We asked to speak to the manager and showed him the inconsistencies within the steaks brought out. He apologized and said he would make yet another one and comp the one meal. He came back with another steak 5 minutes later and it was cooked perfectly. Overall, the experience tonight in what is one of Madison's top rated restaurants was disheartening. We've gone to many supper clubs (Ishnala) and steak places (Rare, Ruth's Chris, Johnny Delmonicos, Signature Room, Gallagher's) and this was by far the worst with service. The food ended up okay but the overall experience ruined what was supposed to be a positive night out. I hope that this review is used as a learning opportunity to grow.

We went here for graduation dinner and the food was extremely below average. I would never even consider going back. Service was also bad, our server was borderline rude and seemed very put off that she had to take care of us while dining. Overall, super disappointed.

This was one of the worst dining experiences my husband and I ever had. I don't even know where to start. We sat down at our table at 6:45p and didn't get our food until almost 9:00p. The waitress kept apologizing that the kitchen was super backed up, but they kept sitting new tables and not telling them that the wait would be over 2 hrs for food. Our waitress had no idea what she was doing, never told us the specials, brought me a Spotted Cow when I ordered a n/a beer, offered us dessert even before our meals had arrived, and after a 2 hr wait for our food, brought my husband the wrong steak. When I finally got my steak (ordered medium), it was raw on the inside (one notch above rare). Never had a manager or anyone of importance walk through to apologize to people even though all of the tables around us were furious about the wait. The only positive thing I can say was that when the correct food was finally brought out to us, it was pretty good. Would never recommend anyone to go to this place. Even the best steak in the world would not be worth over a 2 hour wait.

Had our own private room, masked waitress was attentive but quick interfacing with us. Felt safe and great food.
