Nice camping for tents only. Dog and family friendly. Most sites are big enough for two 4-6 man tents. Sites are far enough apart to give some privacy. The water may be drinkable but is rusty in color and taste. The parking is a short walk from the sites so bring a wagon. It is grassy so we found a few ticks on us each day.

I highly recommend checking this place out. The only thing that you need to watch out for are ticks (in May) and mosquitoes.

Sandhills station on Mud Lake is a beautiful camp ground, guarded by stately oak and beach trees this quiet spot is tucked away just barley out of reach of the lights of Lake Mills. It's is graced with much flora and fauna, a glorious example of central WI with a view of the Milky Way. On a weekday in the middle of summer you may be lucky enough to get the whole campground to yourself as I did. I enjoyed quite encounters with wildlife and an early morning chat with a birder wondering through. And of course the cranes the spot is named for are seen and heard from dawn till dusk.

A hidden gem of a campground. All tent sites in an oak savanna. The group site is the best part of this state campground. Close enough to Lake mills to swim, glacial bike trails, and mud lake to kayak or canoe.

There is a lake at the campground but it is pretty filthy. I would suggest heading 8 minutes down the road into Lake Mills and hit up their public beaches. They have two different beaches, one is larger and has an entry fee, the other is free, smaller, and quite a bit deeper.
About 75 yards to the out most site. Maybe 10 to the closest.
0 people because its a campground.
