I had surgery this week, and was absolutely terrified when I arrived that day. I have had some terrible experiences with medical care I have received in the past, though from totally different providers and facilities. I can't describe how an experience that is negative can effect you. For me, I delay going in to seek care for medical issues. Before, I've always dreaded the idea, dragging my feet to make appointments. I CAN describe what a positive experience I had this time. I was taken back at the scheduled time, admitted and all the forms filled out with the help of a lovely couple of ladies who check you in in the lobby. Again, on schedule. I was taken back and at every step, explained what was being asked of me and told what to expect. This is huge! I was encouraged to ask questions and the staff took a good deal of time making sure I was informed, that my questions had been answered, and most importantly, that I felt comfortable with whatever the next step was going to be. The two nurses who took me back and stayed with me prep-op and post-op, they are the kind of people who got into nursing for the right reasons. To help people. To care. They were amazing. And I mean, amazing. As I am sure the other nurses in surgery were as well, although I was asleep for that part. I was treated like a person. I wasn't judged or sorted into that "you are the patient", and "I'm the nurse, so do what I say..." dynamic. I had real conversations with real people who are wonderful at their job. And insane as it sounds, I even laughed a few times. In addition to my doctor/surgeon, Dr. FREEMAN, a skilled doctor with a kind temperment, and a recovery that was pretty much as smooth as one can be, the care I received could not have been done better. Physically and emotionally, better to have had it done. To my nurses: Marcus RN, Erica RN, you guys are pretty wonderful. (these are the nurses I am babbling about.) And my surgical nurses, thanks to them as well, Heather and Kristin, I believe. You are all making a difference in the world. I'm one very grateful patient.

I'm typically not afraid of surgery, but for some reason this time around bothered me a lot. The nursing team was AMAZING! They helped me through the fear and made me feel comfortable. The follow up after the surgery was just as great too! If I ever have to have another experience with the Day Surgery at Riverbend, it'll be great to know that I will be in the best hands. Thank you all that helped out during my surgery and a special thanks to Dr Lisa Lamereaux
